BJJ, judo, catch wrestling and such combined with drills on a weapon you can use during very high stress seems to be the winning formula, you can eat a bunch of strikes, but if your knee points the wrong way the fights done. or at least it has historically, most if not all successful warrior societies have had some sort of wrestling + weapons handling. vikings, knights and samurai all had that written down explicitly.
