Diversity is fine. Forcing everyone to live together when they clearly don't want to, is not fine. Gene clearly valued diversity and differences, and I think most people do. However, like I said, that's extremely different than forcing those differences upon one another. I don't recall in StarTrek forcing co-existence in the same space with two very different species.
