I doubt this will be a Vietnam or Afghanistan situation- the goal is pretty clear on what the US wants- and that's to re-open the Strait of Hormuz. That goal can be accomplished by negotiation far more easily than a ground invasion.

They obviously planned to go to war with Iran long before the war started, yet somehow managed to be blindsided by the uprising inside Iran, failed to take advantage of it, the uprising was crushed (no I don't believe it was all mossad and cia because even if it's true that's WORSE since it was completely uncoordinated with military action) then failed again in giving away billions of dollars worth of weapons to the Kurds in Iraq, again misreading that the Kurds had 0 intention of joining the war to open a ground invasion of north western Iran, the US and Israel even diverted a large number of air and missile strikes there that accomplished nothing without the Kurdish attack that never came, and the Kurds simply kept the weapons and told Trump to fuck off, not falling for it again. And the lincoln memorial reflecting pool is still closed.
