Syria did not had good relations with Israel for like 50 years. If that pipeline could be stopped, then Syria would not gain some of economical leverage, and would not become potentially more powerful adversary against Israel.For similar reasons, Russia invaded Georgia in 2008, to halt construction of new oil/gas pipelines from Azerbajan to Turkey. Few years prior there was finished one, where even russian companies had parts of it. But for Kremlin, to get azerbajani gas/oil trough THEIR ports in Black Sea was way more important.
