Yes, Americans (and Canadians) tend to ban things that make them feel bad about themselves. Most of the banned stuff isn't noticed because people weren't aware, but much better products etc. never made it to distribution. At least in Canada, I was traditionally able to import for individual use legally. Not sure how American laws are
