Fuel prices in USA are tied to global oil prices. So if China starts to import more oil, global oil prices rises, fuel prices in USA rises (but there is excellent availability, as physically oil is present). Increased fuel prices increases inflation pressure. And it fucks up economy like 18 months later.

There was already additional inflation pressure thanks to erratic tariff policy.

High inflation do not allow for central bank to lower interest rates. Which makes debt service even more expensive.

So yes, China will get significant blow. But it is not like USA will come out of it unaffected.

Oil is a global commodity, if China wants it will simply buy oil out of USA. It functionally doesn't matter where it's produced thanks to global shipping just the price.

Yes, it was clear that it was about China as well, they want to get Chinese influence out of SA, which is why they were pressuring Panama last year as well, this also weakens Russia as they go after the Shadow fleet. Getting rid of Venezuela and Iran are also about bringing down Cuba without a fight, but it also severely weakens China, they wanted to clean up all these middle eastern problems, Iran being the last big one and SA, so they can focus more on the Pacific.

China has the worlds largest reserve which they are tapping into. No one knows how much is left but it's definitely doing better than Americas which was running low since Biden and Trump never bothered to fill. Half of Chinese vehicles are EVs which definitely helps cushion the blow too so the average Chinese consumer is less affected than an American one.
