He was from Aberdeen, which is much different than being from Seattle, and when he went to the city to play music it was going to Olympia. He wasn't from Seattle at all. This sort of distinction doesn't exist anymore, because everything outside of cities has been turned into the same weird dinergoth culture, and techbro Seattle has also infected the entire western washington region. There are also too many mexicans everywhere, so there isn't any sort of mainstream white culture in the schools.

>stable economy
late 80's/early 90's was actually a recession, especially in the Pacific Northwest where the collapse of the logging and pulp mill industries left high unemployment, prior to the dot com boom of the mid to late 90's, Seattle was kind of in a shitty place, and had a heroin epidemic. That's what spawned grunge.
Grunge fell off as the economy DID become stable in the mid to late 90's, then the Dot com bubble popped, wiped out trillions and we had a stagnant economy post 2001. That gave rise to Emo.

A lot of Western culture since the late 19th century has revolved around malaise and existential angst.
It came in waves then there's been an opposite reaction.
Like after WW2 ended there was a huge upsurge of optimism, the 50s had a lot of dancey rocknroll, that's when consumerist culture started.

Then the 60s followed and they started becoming disillusioned: is this all that it's supposed to be, are we just gonna get a job and hope to own a car and a home? No, we want revolution.

Then the 70s got bleaker, the optimism was already going away.

Then the 80s was fake poptimism with big hair and faggots in spandex. It all looked very flamboyant and disconnected from reality.

That's why 90s and grunge were a return to older perennial trends in Western culture of disillusion with modern life, fakery, a sense of lost ideal.

Nah Death Metal was created by trying to make Thrash metal more extreme and it was influenced by Zombie movies a lot, especially the first "real" Death Metal album, which was literally the plots of 70's and 80's zombie movies as lyrics. There was a scene in the Bay Area (Possessed, Autopsy) which was also where the big Thrash scene was, a scene in New York (Suffocation, and Cannibal Corpse, which moved to Florida) a scene in Florida (the biggest one, Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary)

this song is literally based on the 1985 movie "the Re-Animator" Chuck Schuldiner loved B rated horror.
