If someone is coming up the long gravel drive, she lets us know before they're close. If foxes are skulking around the chicken coop at night she alerts us. I reward the dog by taking good care of her, just as you should take good care of your tools or equipment if you want it to continue performing well for you. When she dies I'll bury her near a nice tree in the corner of the yard and get a new one. I doubt I will dwell on it at all. I like my dog because she's a good and well trained animal. People who own dogs to lavish affection on them don't make sense to me. Have children and give them attention.
