Have you considered the possibility that capitalists also think there is a problem, but don't agree with your solution? Because that's actually what's going on here. This isn't commies who want to be nice and capitalists who just want to be assholes, this is commies who just declare that if you don't agree with their solution you don't want to solve the problem. They shut down debate like that because they know that their proposed solution will make the problem worse, and they don't actually care.
>>540512186
Great idea, cap how much they are allowed to charge and then force additional expenses on them. That's totally what a capitalist would suggest. Government intervention with everything, that's capitalism. I'm sure that landlords manage to stay in business even when it's no longer profitable, and new people will be eager to enter this unprofitable sector of the economy. You're a genius!

Landlords handle most of the tedious busywork of owning a home for their tenants, they objectively add value. When banks were first created they provided the service of providing secure warehousing of gold for their clients, when previously people had to just carry it around as coins or keep it in their homes. It was the development of fractional reserve banking and the creation of central banks and subsequently fiat currency which turned banks into scams. Similarly housing would be a much more ethical market without all the government intervention.

>Don't agree with your solution.
OP is a 1pbtid faggot. He didnt post a solution.
The solution is making it easier for people to be certified electricians, plumbers, architects, etc. You dont need a fucking college degree to build a house. The reason why this shit is so expensive is because there is a lack of these types of jobs and some of the ones that do exist, are contractors, which raises the prices.

And if you want to transfer your certification from state to state. Its super messy and their are all these rules on what certificate any state will accept. Complete bs on god.

>The solution is making it easier for people to be certified electricians, plumbers, architects, etc. You dont need a fucking college degree to build a house.
While credentialism is a problem, it's not the only problem or even the biggest one. The solution to the credentialism problem isn't to make getting the credentials easier, it's to just abolish the government enforcement of the credentialist scheme. They don't even do a good job of ensuring quality anyway.
>The reason why this shit is so expensive is because there is a lack of these types of jobs
It's got more to do with zoning and the million regulatory hurdles you have to jump over to just get permission from the government to build a residence. There are very few places where you're even legally allowed to build houses, and when you can you need to get all sorts of permits and inspections just to start construction.
>And if you want to transfer your certification from state to state. Its super messy and their are all these rules on what certificate any state will accept. Complete bs on god.
That's by design. Credentialist schemes are designed to keep labor out of the market to drive up the prices that the people who have the credentials can charge. It's like a price fixing cartel, but for labor rather than products.

>>540513356
Just want to be clear. I'm not saying make getting credentials easier as in make the tests easier. I think the tests should accurately question all material necessary for any given role.

I am saying that spending 4 years of your life in college in order to get one is retarded. And if a lot more people with these credentials exist, the cost to build a house will go down.

I dont really know how big of a deal zoning laws are, I would just assume if you buy land in the correct zone it isnt much of a problem.
>You need all sorts of permits and inspections.
Permits are a one time thing I would think, maybe it needs to get renewed. But inspections, which again are facilitated by people with college degree certifications. Dont block off credentials with a college degree and a lot more inspectors will come around and making houses will be easier.
>>
>>540513589
Too expensive. Real question is why don’t they just take the old weakling boomers’ houses from them?
>>
>>540513502
China had a totally different problem. They were building way too many homes, frequently in places where nobody wanted to live. There was a bubble driving up prices, but that bubble was driving real construction, the supply wasn't artificially constrained.
>>540513594
>Just want to be clear. I'm not saying make getting credentials easier as in make the tests easier. I think the tests should accurately question all material necessary for any given role.
And I want to be clear, I'm saying that there should not be government tests and permits at all. The government has no right to tell people they can't do a job that people are willing to pay them to do.
>I dont really know how big of a deal zoning laws are, I would just assume if you buy land in the correct zone it isnt much of a problem.
The problem is that the space actually zoned for residential use is pretty limited.
>Permits are a one time thing I would think, maybe it needs to get renewed. But inspections, which again are facilitated by people with college degree certifications. Dont block off credentials with a college degree and a lot more inspectors will come around and making houses will be easier.
The whole point of the credentials is to make it hard to enter that market. They don't want the price going down, they want it to rise. Do you think the government actually cares if an electrician or plumber is good at their job? Do you think that if the system of certifications were abolished there would suddenly be a scourge of dangerously incompetent plumbers blowing up people's toilets? People who were bad at it would go out of business, just like in any other industry.

Respectfully, I understand that gating behind credentials does raise prices and that the way we have everything set up is very inneficient and overcomplicated. But I really dont think that no certifications would be good.
We are already having huge problems with Jeets faking experience, the job market is terrible and no company wants to pay out of pocket to train anyone.
Certifications allow companies to filter out inexperienced employees. Even in fields like IT Support where certs aren't manditory, it is still used (albiet less now since this sector is dying) because signals a baseline level of competence in that field.
>The whole point of credentials is to make it hard to enter the market.
Its true that some politicians have used credentials to this effect. But this isn't the only reason and you are significantly down playing the fact it is done to ensure competency and that builders know about the current regulations.
I understand hating the government, but I dont think its fair to anyone to act like they are completely evil and this is just done to raise prices and nothing else.

if the supply actually met demand then prices would be much more reasonable. They'd still be artificially inflated by government backed home loans and stuff like that, but they wouldn't be anywhere near where they are right now. Just because there are technically enough houses for everyone doesn't mean that they are in places where people want to live or that they are what people want. A free market could solve these problems, government intervention just locks them in.
>>540514420
>At least a lowly potato farmer still gets his own small house under communism.
They literally don't. Every communist country has tried to collectivize agriculture. You'd live in a shared dorm with your fellow workers. If you want to own your shit you want capitalism.

>I understand that gating behind credentials does raise prices and that the way we have everything set up is very inneficient and overcomplicated.
>We are already having huge problems with Jeets faking experience, the job market is terrible and no company wants to pay out of pocket to train anyone.
So you're saying the government program doesn't actually fix the problem it's supposed to, and it definitely causes other problems, but we should keep trying to make it work? How about we just get rid of it entirely and at least not have the problems it causes, rather than trying to fix it and only maybe succeeding. Also the reason companies don't want to pay to train people anymore is also the government's fault.
>Its true that some politicians have used credentials to this effect.
It was literally the point from the very start. Some big businesses were using it to drive their smaller competitors out of business.

>>
>>540515023
>How exactly would the free market fix the artificial scarcity you're trying to push as organic with 101 tier capitalism propaganda?
High prices lead to people wanting to enter the market to make money. These new entrants to the market undercut existing high prices. Prices fall until it's no longer possible to build new residences for less than they go for on the market. This really is 101 level shit, you're right. Why couldn't you answer that yourself? The much more interesting question is what is preventing that from happening, and it's not greed. Greed would lead to people trying to undercut each other to make a sale, so something is preventing people from just building cheap houses and selling them, or building cheap apartments and renting them out for lower than current prices.
>>
>>540515185
>Greed would lead to people trying to undercut each other to make a sale
OR, collaborate to keep prices high. It has happened several times throughout several kinds of businesses.
>>
>>540515185
Because artificial scarcity created by "investors" is keeping prices high. Its basic supply and demand. You were taught this is 101. Now tell me how the gubberment is restricting your free market in this case?
>>
>>540515277
>OR, collaborate to keep prices high.
So you're saying that nobody would break the cartel to sell some extra houses and nobody new would decide to enter into the market since it's obviously so profitable? Unless the cartel is enforced by the government good luck keeping it going, especially for something as easy to enter into the market of as constructing houses.
>>
>>540515306
its also dipshits in blue states like cali making it impossible to build anything new
>>
>>540515306
How would they actually enforce this cartel and make sure nobody in the cartel cheats and sells below the agreed elevated price, and how would they prevent new people from entering the market? There were lots of attempts to create cartels during the gilded age, and they all fell apart either due to somebody secretly selling below the cartel's agreed upon price or because new companies entered the market. It wasn't until the government stepped in to regulate them that they were able to actually succeed in lowering production and raising prices.
>>
>>540515400
Whos to stop investors or blackrock from just buying those too?
>>
>>540515460
So its the govement stopping these investors from selling houses for less is what youre telling me. How are they doing that? Where are these cheap houses you are referring to? You got the scoop?
>>
>>540515582
>So its the govement stopping these investors from selling houses for less is what youre telling me.
No, it's the government restricting new entrants into the market from building more houses you sneaky little shit.
>How are they doing that?
A combination of zoning laws, credentialism, permitting, taxation, and a bunch of other tools. Mostly zoning laws though.
>Where are these cheap houses you are referring to?
Not being built you little shit. Why are you so desperate to twist what I very clearly stated into the complete opposite of what I said in order to attack a strawman?
>>
>>540512186
that's not capitalism, that's fascism
capitalists believe the market itself solves the issue most efficiently by providing better landlords
>>
>>540515738
>there's not enough housing
Bullshit
Also >>540515468
>>
>>540515468
So people would just start businesses building cheap shitty houses that the cartel would be forced to buy in order to keep them off the market. They'd be driven to bankruptcy pretty quickly. Carnegie almost went bankrupt trying to get a monopoly by buying every steel mill in the country, and people realized they could make money building really shitty steel mills and he'd buy them. He never actually reached the point where he could cut production and raise prices. Houses are way easier to build than steel mills.
>>540515926
>continues to attack strawmen rather than what I say
You really are a duplicitous little shit. It is the government restricting the supply which has allowed companies (which are frequently deeply in bed with the government themselves) to buy up all the slack and drive prices through the roof, along with government guaranteed home loans which pump money into the market allowing them to raise prices further. You're going to ignore all that though and just pretend that the free market is at fault and the solution is to give the government more power, even though that's what got us into this mess.
>>
>>540515842
>the market solves itself

It won't. Prices will tank far enough to trigger another buying spike which just raises prices again. True affordable housing is gone forever anon. Okay, so this statement means you have some mental model of how things work, and that it somehow implies this. The more housing you build the more kids people will shit out. You will never reach a point where there is so much available housing that demand is small in comparison.

You would have a sacrifice all national forests and parks and basically genocide all the animals and farm lands and build housing over all of it to make housing affordable again. And then even if we did that who is going to upkeep all those excess housing units to keep prices low?

Or you could just accept that the free market is a failure. It will always seek to commodify basic necessities like housing in order to generate profits for investors. Thus housing for profit is a failure at a foundational level. It will never achieve the affordability mandate it seeks because the system itself is designed to increasing housing price ls to keep investors rich and happy.

Socialism is the only way. But human nature will never accept it.

"As of 2021, the Private Equity Stakeholder Project estimated that all institutional investors owned just 350,000 properties across the country, which is roughly 0.36% of the approximately 100 million single-family homes in the United States (6:52-7:00). A more aggressive estimate by MetLife puts that figure at 700,000 properties, or 0.72% (7:03-7:08)."
Different stat: https://reason.com/volokh/2026/01/07/barring-institutional-investors-from-buying-homes-wont-make-housing-more-affordable-and-would-likely-make-things-worse/
"Large institutional investors (those who own 100 or more homes) own only about 3% of single-family homes nationwide. That's nowhere near enough to attain any kind of monopoly power, even if we assume (implausibly) that the large investors are colluding with each other. The fact that large investors account for a higher percentage of recent sales doesn't change that reality. Even if they were to increase their share of the housing stock several-fold, that still wouldn't be nearly enough to create any kind of monopoly."

It doesn't even make sense. Like that's 300k of profit they're just leaving on the table for the middlemen according to that image.

People don't solely base their decision to have kids on the price of housing.
>You would have a sacrifice all national forests and parks and basically genocide all the animals and farm lands and build housing over all of it to make housing affordable again.
Literally not true. Just allow people to build residential buildings in places currently zoned for offices and farms and shit. My family literally owns a farm that just sits there because we're not farmers and we can't sell the damn property because doing so would mean we'd have to pay so much in taxes it wouldn't be worthwhile. If it weren't zoned as farmland we could subdivide it and sell it to developers to build housing, but that's literally illegal. So this is a bunch of land that is going completely unused in an area where housing is ludicrously expensive.
>you could just accept that the free market is a failure.
I literally have enough land to drive housing prices in my area down by like 10%, but the government won't let me. How is that the free market's fault?

Central banks smooth market cycles so people can have some reasonable job security. If we went back to the gold standard, then all employees would be directly exposed to market boom and bust cycles. It would be 100% employment one month followed by 60% unemployment 3 months down the road. Cannot have a functioning civilization with that much instability.

So do you think location doesn't matter for housing or what? Because the unoccupied houses mostly aren't in places where there are jobs or public transit or anything like that. We're talking about people's beach houses and stuff. The few places where the houses are both unoccupied and in convenient locations they are typically in that condition because government regulations make them uneconomical to sell or rent out, either due to rent controls or taxes or what have you.

the US can't follow Japan's lead because it has a politically powerful landlord class which buys politicians
You don't need to go full communism to break landlords, but you do need communists to be powerful enough to force capitalists to make concessions, that's why basically every land reform in history happened (that or tons of free land after indigenous people died en masse of smallpox/got slaughtered). The fear of China, North Korea, and the JCP absolutely motivated it in Japan and South Korea. The US can no more solve this problem absent left-wing pressure than it can give its people health care.
Libertarians often fail to understand how politics work in practice, and therefore propose unrealistic and unworkable solutions like a self-regulating market.
>>
>>540517530
>I don't think whoever's paying you to shill this poorly is getting their money's worth
No one's paying him. Right-wingers believe that rigid hierarchies = order. And order is better than chaos. It's one core reason why they protect the rich so much. They see taxing the rich as an attack on an orderly society. They do even recognize that too much wealth inequality results in the instability and disorder that they hate.

Furthermore, they actually believe it is their god given freedom to earn and hoard as much money and resources as they want to. They do no see society as the collective that it is. They see it as, "fuck you! I will take all that I want and I don't care at all about the collective or overall health of society!" Right-wingers are a very selfish and hyper individualist people. They are civilization destroyers.
>>
>>540512084
Rent is theft? Theft of what? A rental property is providing you a service, ie - Someone built up their credit, saved up lots of money, shopped around for a good house, shopped around for a good interest rate and other variables on a mortgage, went into contract, put forth 20% of the total sale price in cash ($100,000 or more), signed the mortgage contract, signed the sale contract, put tens of thousands of dollars into renovation (painting, flooring, landscaping, appliances, etc), applied for and acquired all the various insurances such as liability, fire, flood, and equipment insurances, paid to file the property as a business to get a tax ID, paid to have several inspections done, met with several real estate agents to list their property as a rental, screened through several tenants, and finally went into a lease agreement with a tenant.

You are paying the landlord to file and make the quarterly property taxes on the property, to make the monthly mortgage payment that you would fail to qualify for, to make the quarterly payments on the various required insurance policies that you would fail to qualify for, to make the payments on the various annual inspections for gas lines and general fire safety, to make the annual payments on the maintenance cost to keep the air conditioner and furnace and hot water heater in working condition, and many other nagging expenses and concerns.

While all you do is pay rent. If you think it is so easy, go buy a home and stop being a renter. Stop whining like you think the world owes you something. Start doing whatever is required of you to get from here to there. Or, be a sucker and take the easy lazy road of being a renter.

Somalia was actually one of the fastest growing economies in Africa before the African Union mission to prop up the government and the US started bombing it and hasn't stopped bombing for 30 years. It's hard to tell exactly how quickly their economy was growing since there wasn't any centralized body collecting statistics, but according to metrics like cell phone adoption (a big deal in the 90s and early 2000s) energy consumption, food prices, and things like that, their economy was actually growing extremely quickly compared to their neighbors.
>where they have no central banks
Somalia has had a central bank for more than 20 years. You're obviously one of those motherfuckers who thinks Africa hasn't changed since the 90s. Let me guess, when I say "Rwanda" the only think you can think of is the genocide that happened more than a quarter century ago.
>tell me how the workers are fairing there?
Depends on where in Somalia we're talking, but generally they're trucking along alright. The central government is still pretty weak, and it's being counterbalanced by groups like Al-Shabaab, which in certain regions provides alternative courts and stuff to the government, and forces the government to be less shitty than most in the region through competition. The US and Israelis have been propping up a proxy faction in Somaliland and are trying to break it off from the central government's control, which is causing problems. Gee, it's almost like it's nearly impossible to start a business and most businesses fail within the first few years. I wonder what could have caused that to happen? It's certainly not caused by government regulations and being taxed out of half your money. Let me explain something to you. You're a coward who is afraid to compete, afraid to have to scratch and claw your way to a life well earned.

Two brothers born less than a year apart. One brother spends his school years with his nose in the books, constantly reading, constantly testing himself with new material, living away at university, doubling his efforts at exam time, routinely engaged with his professors, devoting a few hours each week to a volunteer position in the industry he hopes to work in someday, doesn't own a TV nor a game console but does own shelves of text books and note books.

The other brother spends his school years playing video games, smoking pot, drinking beers, watching porn, hanging out with friends until 4 AM, cutting classes, sleeping until 1 PM, and living in a room in his mom's basement.

One brother gets himself a part time job because he wants a little extra money in his pocket. He collects his weekly paycheck and every month he buys $100 of a managed S&P 500 mutual fund and deposits it into his Roth IRA account. He repeats this every month until he starts making a little more money, sometimes depositing $600 of S&P per month into that Roth IRA.

The other brother spends his extra money on beer, pot, video games, netflix, hulu, and the newest mobile phone.

Fast forward 30 years. The brothers are in their late 50s. One brother is an international corporate lawyer charging his clients $1200 per hour and making $2.1M per year in salary. He checks his Roth IRA and it is now worth several million dollars. He cashes out and uses the money to buy revenue bearing real estate property that generates a monthly revenue of $85k.

The other brother is a cook in a diner with a salary of $45k annually. He works long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays. He has no retirement fund.

One brother worked his ass off to get where he is. The other brother was a lazy slob who never invested in himself. You are too afraid to compete.

how can you be too stupid to understand what the fucking communists want, it's literally an ideology designed for the lowest common denominator

landlords are the purest example of capitalism and rent-seeking because the landlord literally does fuck all but extract rent from capital he owns. the tenant is the one using the capital to be productive.

notice how he's got a job where he's doing something productive rather than investing his way into wealth by saving up from part time jobs or flipping properties.

unless you're born into wealth or get insanely lucky with some random loot drop you can't skip the "productive member of society" stage.

They mean that people often pay over 50% of their salary on their rent.

>no, you just don't have a response and hoped you could vaguepost your way out of a bind.
Do you really want to know? Well fine, I guess I'll give you a hint. You're whole region is called the butthurt belt over what the Russians did to support your local socialist movements which were enacting the sorts of policies you think are such a great idea.
>you don't even know what flag this is.
You're obviously a mobilefag who doesn't know that adults with real computers can just mouse over the flag and see what it is. Even if I couldn't, Latvia's flag is a browner shade of red than Austria, the color of pure butthurt, shit mixed with blood.

you can always buy your own home fag.
A a land lord had enough to rent out land. if you have problem don't rent and buy your own.

>if you have problem don't rent and buy your own.
There is a very limited amount of land zoned for residential use in the US. If you buy a random plot of land you probably can't build a house on it and live in it.

Yes landlords are notoriously minimizing margin to keep all the money in renter’s pockets

Modern saints
