The end of british and french superpower status happened when they became significantly weaker than the united states and this was shown in Suez. More or less they were confirmed as weak in WW2, given how all britain could do on its own was hang on.It was a paper tiger moment, like now with the US. All along Iran was the real superpower

This is not to say that the other parts of the empire were somehow worthless... but it wasnt possible to equate their possession directly with economic power.
