Japan eventually failed in all of its military goals of WWII, and became the vassal state of the USA, which it remains to this day, occupied and utilized as a military staging point in east asia. Colonization in asia was already on the way out by the 20's, and this departure of western powers from the region is what allowed Japan to attempt its gambit. It was not Japan who freed them.
