The CHUDs are modeled after the Morlocks who in turn are an allegory for the Proletariat. This theme runs deeper than just the obvious physical parallels of being subterranean flesh eating humanoids. Like the Morlocks the CHUDs are born from the beleaguered working class and the transformation the result of the actions of an uncaring, corrupt, and exploitive elite who in turn become the helpless prey of those they previously exploited and derided. The C.H.U.D's are the morlocks and as such CHUD = The Proletariat. Or more accurately in our case, the Volk.
