Almost everyone started out freshman year claiming to be Christian, but by junior/senior year, after we all got to know each other, we figured out that no one really believed in a magical sky daddy and were far more willing to identify as agnostic/atheist. The social pressure to "be christian" is immense. Even today, several of my engineering friends will still pretend to their families that they are Christian. It's also not surprising that the most fake and gay professions that make their money through scamming others are more religious.
