Bjarne Stroustrup has laughed off claims that AI can replace Software Engineers. Stroustrup argued that AI coding tools consistently generate more bugs, more bloat, and more security holes than they help eliminate — and that the resulting code is "nearly impossible to validate" in safety-critical contexts.

I agree.

Anon jees can't do C++ and they are writing code in the most jeet friendly langs,
and the code is still buggy and full of giant security holes,.

Luckily my software job is relatively safe from AI. However, I have a buddy whose company was halfway handed over to Indians, and the Indians are going absolutely crazy with the AI.
He says it's a fucking nightmare. Commits that nobody has even reviewed, ultimately getting scanned by AI and approved by AI. Bloat, inefficiencies, nonsensical decisions, changes that make sense in the context of the task, but make no sense in the context of the project as a whole.
AI has also been recommending they create microservices to handle certain tasks, so they'll take entire chunks of the application and attempt to rebuild their functionality as a service. But then the service won't have the data or context required within its own system to complete the task, so they have to come back over to the primary system and build APIs that the service now has to call to get the data it needs, so the logic becomes this tangled mass of REST calls where you used to just be able to do customer.getLastTransaction() from within the logic that needs it.
And what's worse, the microservice is a new project, so nobody's going to a bunch of random separate services and monitoring code quality. There's no template for building new services, so they're all different. AI just generates a totally new service every time, and so config files, standard practices, etc, are all a little different.
Then suddenly, they realize they CAN'T really do everything they need with services, so they will get lazy and connect to the central database that's supposed to be 'owned' by the central application. They'll bypass all the business logic and just do whatever read-writes they deem necessary, ignoring pre-existing rules and transformations, etc. So even the data itself becomes chaotic and arbitrary.
I feel for him. He says that 95% of their code is written by AI now, and 80%+ is only ever reviewed by AI.
Some Indian shitbag is trying to become CTO, so he wants to 'deliver' 10x faster than they ever did
>>
>>540657666

What he's saying is true. I had a friend that entered computer binary code into missiles to keep it fast.

The worst part is that the jeets are almost 100% remote, working from India. So they're all desperate to keep their jobs. In turn, they want to look like the most productive and most capable, so they just spam code into the repo to look efficient.
They're gaming every metric they can to look good on paper. So if that means bypassing important rules, data models, etc, they'll just do it.
>But that is the old application, this is new
>Right, but you still have to apply the proper transformations to our data.
>No, that is old system
>Yes, but the old system is still running. You can't just write data to the database that doesn't conform to our requirements
>This new system doesn't have those same rules
>You're writing to the database of the old system, you're breaking our data policies
>When I pull data over here, it works
>Yes, but when we pull it over here, it's ill formatted
>Then use new system
>No, there are hundreds of tasks that still rely on the old system, and you're breaking all of them
>Okay, I look into it
The most chilling thing is how they'll break everything else, but as long as their code works, they think it's someone else's job to fix all the things that broke. They were assigned a feature, they did what had to happen to deliver that feature. Sorry if other systems need to be updated to accommodate the 'new way'.

I remain convinced one of the reasons that American big tech is pushing Rust is because its easier for Indians
I hear its similar to Java and Indians love Java
>>
>>540660303
I agree. I've seen it happen many times. The question is how much of a mess they'll leave behind.
His company seems to have gone all-in on some newfangled system that the top Indian has sold them. I've seen the slide decks, it's 100% mumbojumbo, but execs don't know that.
And the fact that they're not building a parallel system, but attempting to slowly consume the original system's role is what's going to be a massive headache.
They're actively destroying the functional application while they build the new one. It's going to be hell on earth to fix that shit. Especially since they'll definitely succeed at replacing a few parts, so you can't just tear down their 'microservice' architecture and throw it out. It's got deep tendrils into their legacy systems now.
Oh well, if their company fails, it's because they trusted jeets. I've discovered they're scammers even in the software world. Everything they do is a disposable scam.

I feel like AI is the equivalent to a chainsaw: you cut a lot faster, but a lot less precisely, and precision matters in software.
It helps me a lot with mundane stuff like field mapping tables or auditing API keys or whatever. Maybe things you never spent enough time on before. And it’s good for finding bugs.
But giving it to jeets is suicidal. It just compounds be jeet problem 100x.
I love it. Lots of major corps are going to go bankrupt because of it.

c++ was always hardcore neckbeards and social outcasts. i respect the strictness of the language but it has been largely superseeded by other one's like rust/java/c# and especially ts/py in infra. a good c++ dev was always someone weird that had problems getting laid and with personal hygiene. these modern languages show you can get pussy and dress adequatly in public without being a smelly autist.
>>

there is the bun port to rust as a example to show how AI driven coding works I haven't checked it but it doesnt seem that bad. However a dev is supposed to know the code like the back of his hand if you have something that constantly changes idk if you can still develop the same expertise.

Real Chads have been writing everything that actually matters in COBOL for 70 years. You don't even need to know how to "code" you just tell the computer what you want it to do and it does it.

>>
>>540657666

it's kind of true. AI writes shitty code scopes. it can help you find bugs and teach you things, like a google search++ in a way. the worst thing AI does it promote garbage architecture.

ultimately a simple question must be asked: what has AI built? if the reality is that people use AI as a pure text generator, then it's not good for a lot of things. even the mass produced AI slop ultimately goes through a human.
>>
>>540662414
>c++ was always hardcore neckbeards and social outcasts.
no... it was pretty much the norm for most windows applications because c# was unoptimized as shit
>>

Is it an invoicing/billing/estimate/ordering software by any chance? Possibly related to construction? Because it sounds like exactly what's happening at the company I subcontract for
>>
>>540662402
I use it daily. I don't have it do full feature builds or anything, but I have it write functions and give me tips on various configuration changes, etc.
I cannot imagine just letting it loose and accepting whatever it comes up with. I like my codebase too much. I've spent years tidying it up, making it clean and clear. I love working in my stuff.
I cannot imagine a scenario where I trust AI to do more than write isolated pieces of code that I personally analyze before implementing.
>>
>>540664561
It isn't precisely that.
There's a lot of invoicing, billing, estimates, ordering - which made me wonder at first.
But it's for the automotive industry.
Scary to think how common this is.

>>

Yeah it's gotten so bad that I've been using billing invoicing software from 1999 that I've had on a CD that somehow hasn't been busted yet, and it worked on every windows version with no issues despite never getting updates

They actually couldn't be more different. Rust is fine, but it's mostly relegated to tooling for Python and probably Java
>>
>>540664705
>it's for the automotive industry.
Oh fuck it actually really might be the company I'm thinking of, as a new firm started buying up tons of small individual software companies that made good software dedicated to particular types of businesses in specific fields, and they're trying to merge like 20 different programs into one monstrous clusterfuck

AI does produce bad code, but I think he misses the point. I worked for fortune 500 comapnies and usually "incorrect" code getting shipped to production is the norm. We have a bunch of jeets pushing bad code to production daily. What's the difference if its AI pushing instead? It will probably actually be better.

Automotive: embedded software, ADAS, motor control, infotainment – C99 and C++ are standard
