I was renting for $1,200-1,300 per month in suburban Chicago until like 3-4 years ago. Every organized borough in the state has property taxes, ergo if you live in Fairbanks (the FNSB, bigger than most states), the Mat-su valley, Anchorage, or Juneau, you're paying property taxes. My mom's are almost 9k a year now. If you aren't paying property taxes you are living truly in the sticks. We now also pay a 'tax' in expropriated permanent fund money. This year the state will be taking a bit over 15,000 from just my household by doing this. 1 in 3 employed in this state work for the government already... this state is a joke.
