But the majority of the population in any given country does not control the narrative or influence the decisions at the top in any meaningful way (although there are rare exceptions). In most cases, the elites at the top decide to embark on a certain political path and the rest of the population follows either because they get convinced by the propaganda machine that this is the right way, or because they are too busy with their personal problems to take a stance against it, or simply because they are not powerful enough to oppose the state. Claiming white Americans did any of this is the same as claiming Americans collectively decided to declare independence from Britain and fight for it, when in reality it was a handful of statesmen that decided for the entirety of the nation that this is the right choice. Could people have rebelled against them? Probably, but it is next to impossible when they have no organization or adequate ways of spreading their point of view. That is a fight against a Leviathan. In order to make people rebel you go to push them towards the edge where they have almost nothing to lose, to which Americans were hardly ever close. All those changes Americans had allowed to be done to their country could hardly be prevented as long as the leadership committed to seeing them implemented and the population remained fed and entertained. Besides, all of these changes were very much in line with the principles the US society had been built on, those amendments just developed them further as society matured and progressed, casting away the relics of the past, so why would anyone expect Americans to rally against them? They were always the pioneers of the ideas of freedom and equality.
