US has sent 12 yos to big boy prison. We mostly have separate jails for kids that young.

This is juvey prison rules. It is rare for someone under 16 or 17 to get tried as an adult. Where you born yesterday? 14 is just old enough to know better and should be punished but just young enough not to fully grasp the consequences at times. And a lot of that is dumbasses accidentally killing someone they were trying to injure.
