I will say that China’s demographic crisis is much much fucking worse than ours due to one child policy, and it will gum them up more and more into stagnating from the youths having to support a healthcare industry for the aging masses, and quite possibly cap their realistic expectations for GDP growth. They might not surpass us ever actually, or if they do it will be by a hair in like 30 years and it depends a lot on how we are doing vs them on if we can keep ahead or not. Japan was starting to come close to our GDP in the early 90s and look what happened. They are like 1/6th our total now. The idea China can be as developed and locked in as a consumer economy like us or Japan and still have like 5-6+% growth is a total pipe dream. They can probably do a couple percent points a year at best during good years like the rest of the developed world. There is no magical communist fairy dust that makes money work differently for them for forever and ever and ever. Having said all that zeihan is a joke yeah but he is not 1000% wrong about everything either, just making stupidly fast projections on timeline of events.
