I studied this a lot.-- Covid was very deadly, but mostly to old people and people with comorbidities, such as Heart Disease and Obesiety-- In people with lots of comorbidities, it's often hard to single out a single cause of death. (Was it the heart disease, the lung cancer, or the covid that killed him?) The death rate from all these comorbidities increased during Covid, heart disease deaths spiked for example. -- The Biden administration attempted to change the way that Covid was calculated to more accurately reflect this number, however they got tremendous pushback from the conspiracy right, and were forced to abandon this policy. -- The excess deaths from Covid in the US alone came to around a million. That is, people who died in excess of previous years-- Over time as the virus became endemic, it evolved to be slightly less deadly, and the old people susceptible to it simply died off. Therefore the excess death rate is still elevated, but not as high as it was. Covid has simply become another flu.
