small business owner/operator
Is making less money now than he was ten years ago. The Sales has gone down by 60-70 percent. When from 15 employees to just 5. And his cost of running a business has increased by over 200% just in the last years or so. The economy is in the gutter. The government is owned by the rich and they keep taking more and more away from us. As he states

I saw this video yesterday and the one thing he did not mention was gauge of steel you use, you might no longer be able to buy steel...at all, possibly for years. It turns out AI data centers are now buying all the steel direct from the mills. It's now so bad that big companies like Caterpillar can't even buy steel to make their equipment. Let that sink in.

He's right about the market being cautious. Money is tight. Companies aren't spending. People are leveraged on debt. This has shifted around a bit since Covid, but for various reasons like huge cost shifts, availability shifts, stuff tied to turning the manufacturing world off and back on again in the most disorganized way. Now it's very, very definitely a cash flow problem. This is still a cost of goods issue in certain sectors, but it's also largely a tariff related problem for some major cost shifts and tax burdens. It's basic living costs, fuel costs, housing costs, car costs, stagnant wages, layoffs, high unemployment, and so on. All of it matters. All of it influences. And the market is hard. It's especially hard if your market is niche. For example, the company I work for decided for the last two years to focus heavily on diversification specifically for market and sales stability. This included both customers and product markets. We've worked hard on new customers and balancing out relative customer percentages, and we've worked hard on opening into new market segments to stabilize production volume and smoothing out market variations. You just have to do this stuff, and you've needed to do this for several years now just to stay afloat.

Too bad the US tariffed Canadian steel at 50% and canada is drawing down production because they only have so much domestic demand and moving steel long distances isn't cost effective.

I’m sorry, but I don’t trust anything from Minnesota, even if it seems trustworthy at first. For all I know he’s doing just fine and made this video to farm views.

You reap what you sow but if you are only able to draw 17k off of your business a year and using credit cards to fund the rest, you pretty much already have a failed business. Maybe this is just a really down time for them, but they really should have already closed up because they are putting themselves in a bad debt situation by keeping open.

We've been headed towards this since Reagan.

Trickle down economics is theft from working people,Keep in mind, this is all by design so that when everything goes belly up, the rich can buy it all for peanuts, especially the land and real estate.

It's all caused by deliberate devaluation and hoarding of money by the rich.

A lot of this sounds like the sort of BS that you probably always have to deal with running a small business like this, whether in this period or any other. All the shit about paying for workers' comp but not benefitting from it, shippers jerking him around, fixed costs spread among fewer people, etc, would all not be so bad if he was getting as many orders as he used to.

But based on what he says at the end, the real core issue is that his client base is mostly farmers, and the farming sector is in a downturn

This man knows exactly how many watts his light bulbs are pulling in his building and how much it costs to run the lights. He knows his business he knows his community and he's there for the right reasons!
