Based! MAGA!

>Donald Trump has ordered the US Navy to return to using old steam catapults to launch fighter jets, in a move that has been a bizarre obsession for the President in recent years.
Trump told the Navy to remove the advanced system used to launch fighter jets from its newest type of aircraft carrier, according to a directive issued Thursday.
>The new mandate would likely cost billions of dollars and revert the Navy’s most advanced ships to a system that takes more sailors to operate and is more difficult to maintain.
>The memo directs the Pentagon and the Navy to present Trump with plans to remove the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System, also known as EMALS, within two months.
It also says the Ford-class carrier's electromagnetic weapons elevators should be replaced.
>The move comes after years of Trump railing against the new, magnetically powered catapult system that shoots fighter jets off the deck of the carriers.
>Trump's obsession with the new technology goes back to at least 2017 in his first term, when he claimed the new system is “not good” and “doesn't have the power” of the older, steam systems in an interview with Time magazine.
>“You're going to goddamned steam,” Trump said at the time. The topic has frequently come up since then at rallies and other events.
>It also comes at a time when the U.S. military is trying to find funding from Congress for all its desired equipment and as the Navy is struggling to fill its ships with enough sailors.
>While Trump is looking to roll back the latest technology, the newest Chinese aircraft carriers employ electromagnetic catapults and Francesaid it plans to use the system on its new carrier.

genuinely should be impeached
>>
he is always on about that.
>>
The ships will be out of commission during retrofitting. Is he going to do this in the middle of a war?

it's not a war, leftshit

He should first worry about how to feed sailors onboard carriers.

I suppose we are letting our gulf allies take over. Give Iran someone else to strike.

Its a cover story for something else being done for the ships that they cant talk about

The only ship that uses this system is the USS Ford, which just completed an extended deployment in the spring and is already in Norfolk for an extended maintenance period.
Also, the US has 10 other carriers in active service, with one more being fitted and scheduled to be commissioned some time next year. There are plenty of them to deal with these kinds of things without causing any major problems.
>>
he gets all like 10 things in his head and just goes on and on about those things, this is one of the things
>>
I know a kid in the Navy and the electromagnetic thing was ALWAYS breaking down and shitting out, everybody hated it. I was surprised to hear this since the retard NAFOs on /k/ seemed to think it was great.

I don't like Trump and think he's an idiot as well but he could only possibly ever take that decision if it warrants itself through an operational or logistical incentive because such decisions are never the product of the thinking mind of the US president but the result of counceling and experts notifying the president of an issue that could hinder future strategic objectives.

It could be something like the US needing to shift their military industrial complex into a faster paced cadence of production because expected losses and attrition caused by future conflicts, possibly against China or Russia require accelerated production pace. Could be that the steam ones are faster to make, could be something else.

You guys know this is old news right?
The electro magnetic catapult design has all kinds of problems and Trump addressed switching to an updated steam model durring his first term.
This is actually a smart move
>>
>>540796738
Ten years ago before the technology got better a sailor told trump he didn't like it. Since then trump has it in his mind that "magnetic catapults bad". Now he's gonna spend billions revamping ships for an inferior technology because he's a friggin idiot.

At least biden had the decency to listen to more mentally stable people around him more often than not.

Remember when he ordered them to switch to magnets and they fucking laughed at him?
>>

would be better off building a new drone carrier design. one that costs less if lost at sea. the US should probably be ramping up it's ship building anyway. maybe they are and I just dunno

*impaled

Very true but the magnetic catapult systems are not considered new anymore and are in fact much better than the old steam ones
>>
Trump is unironically retarded. The fucking steam catapults is the best hes got.
>>
I think what he meant was he wants the presidential food truck that he hides in to be outfitted with steamed hams and a catapult that fires them into his mouth

Reliably or "faster so long as conditions are favorable so long as there is no motion throwing off the alignment of the electromagnetic system"
If all conditions are great and it doesn't break down the electromagnetic cats are slightly faster when they aren't breaking down all the time and having trouble docking cause of increased electrical port needs.

If you mean actually functional, steam.

Look up how much rework had to be done on the Ford and the Kennedy.
Steam is a more practical system.

You have never been on the Ford or dealt with the magnetic weapon elevators.
You are fucking retarded if you genuinely believe this.
>But it launches faster
It breaks all the fucking time for the dumbest reasons because an aircraft carrier isn't a roller coaster on land which is what they based the tech on.

Steam is more practical and lower cost.
Electromagnetic cats are a white elephant.
>>
So basically our jet launchers have been malfunctioning in the strait

Thanks for the heads up

... Trump didn't order the switch to Magnetic cats.
He ordered an improved steam cat design his first term.

How is this news, something to be outraged over, or something anyone is upset over?

It's a good idea. With cyber attacks, dews, localized emps along other fun stuff, it makes sense to keep this portion somewhat manual.

Ship building was ramped up his first term.
Unfortunately pushing the great reset and COVID fucked EVERYTHING into the dirt.
AND YES TRUMP WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE STUPID POLICIES JUST AS MUCH AS THAT FAGGOT BIDEN
Remember Operation Warp Speed?

Partially correct.
They have measures against that stuff.
But once one of those rails gets fucked with in any way they are absolutely fucked unlike with steam
