NATO is a collective defense pact that is capable of protecting the alliance against smaller foes.
The logic behind Article 5 is to crush enemies by overwhelming force, in as far as this would not result in bodybags for NATO.

This is why NATO does not have the ability to go into a hot war against Russia, because any such war would result in tens, or maybe hundreds of thousands of bodybags for NATO - a political cost not a single member of the alliance would be physically capable of paying.

People who think that NATO is willing to throw themselves mindlessly into Russian spears usually live in the Butthurt Belt area. And with the exception of Poland - have no real armies of their own. (that is - they cannot pay the cost on their own, and expect the cost to be paid by someone else)

well they were supposed to, just like in Serbia, Libya, Afghanistan, soldiers from all NATO countries participated. So it was surprising they pussies out with Iran and betrayed US. Nobody understands that Asians are incapable of being in any military alliance.
China will never fight someone else's wars. Never ever. This notion is simply missing from their psyche.
>>
>>540819580
>NATO will be fine without the JEWSA
part of the reason why NATO exists was to prevent Germany, France and UK from going to war aganst each other. Later it was transformed into an anti-USSR bloc. Now it's transformed into an anti-Russia bloc.

But the key founding component remains in place. For as long as USA is present in the alliance, traditional power-struggles cannot reignite between major western European powers. The moment USA leaves NATO, you will have a brief period of EU attempting to transform NATO into a "EU Army", later followed by small military clashes and territorial disputes between EU member states.
>>
>>540819654
>If Ukraine with a population of 30 mil could hold Russia what could Europe with a population of 600 million do?
nothing much.
Every single time there was some kind of conflict that Europe disapproved of or wanted to benefit from, they'd immediately get directly involved.

The war in Ukraine seems to be the most "wrong" conflict in EU's mental history, yet they can't afford to get directly involved. For reasons I described in OP.

Oh and the population of EU doesn't matter, because EU isn't a country. The moment EU attempts to subjugate its member states to mandatory conscription, there won't be much of EU unity left whatsoever.

Ukraine was built by USSR as a military fortress, and Ukraine's infrastructure was designed to continue operating in the event of a nuclear war. The republic was viewed by USSR leadership as a spearhead against NATO in case of WW3.
Hence this is where all the massive stockpiles of ammo came from, and hence why every factory turns into an underground military facility, holding the defense of the entire city together.

Russia's are basically fighting what they had themselves constructed to be unbreachable.
But they're doing it in the context of unlimited money, supplies, ammo, ISR, reconnaisance being supplied to Ukraine by NATO.

And the funny part?
Not only did Ukraine run out of ammo, it's not forcing EU to run out of ammo as well. While continuing to lose territory to the Russians.

>muh 'murrica supremacy
America watched how powerful drone-based warfare is in the Russia-Ukraine war and instead of developing that they assumed that they could subjugate anyone using their old strategies because they think they're unstoppable.

Add to that that the fact that the USA needed the rest of NATO's support for logistics and that this war was started under false pretenses by a retarded octogenarian at the behest of another country and against the wishes of his own military; and of course it has been a shitshow.

soldiers do not pledge allegiance to nor die for alliances/treaties/organisations.
Only a country has the authority to send men to die in a war. But that is always inherently tied to defending said country from an imminent threat.

UK, France, Germany face zero imminent threats from Russia. They're geographically too far away.

You don't know that. That's why NATO is so valuable. You can only speculate what would happen if shit would go down. A known unknown. It could fold like a paper bag day one, yes. You can even assume that's a more likely scenario. But are you willing to risk it? If you miscalculated, you are suddenly at war with dozens of European countries at once with a full backing of US military industry and Kaliningrad and St.Petersburg woefully exposed to the enemy. and entire baltic and northern sea coastlines becoming hostile waters.

NATO main strength is not military, but political. Their strength is regime control, and in that sense they have been quite successful. Also no country has ever left NATO. Yugoslavia, Romania and Albania managed to escape the Warsaw pact. No country has ever managed to escape NATO. Hungary was just controlled opposition, some kind of bait for Putin. If any country ever leaves NATO the price they have to pay would be extremely high.

by different estimates EU already lost over 4 trillion euro just from economic damages caused by the war. This doesn't include the losses incurred from giving Ukraine financial assistance.

This is also why EU tried so hard to use 300 billion euro in confiscated Russian assets to continue funding Ukraine, despite the enormous legal risks to EU for doing so.

Now let's wait and see how Romania uses 150 billion euros in tomato and potato money to become a nuclear superpower.

most cities have almost no civilians left by the moment the war reaches the city limits, they all get evacuated.

The "villages" you speak of represent dense defense lines/networks, and each town/village that represents a long battle is deeply fortified.

Cities in the USSR were originally built with all-out war in mind, so they're effective as fortifications. They're not completely bomb-proof, but they're also not like Gaza, where a single small bomb can destroy an entire building.
