I'm from Bucks County PA and this is almost exactly the highway behind which my development was situated. The bleak artery of going to and from school, mall, etc. This is what our world looks like. Yeah a few minutes away is nature, that's nice. But this is where we are living and breathing.

If I have to do something or go to a specific store, I drive to the shopping centers in the main thoroughfare. But I don't hang out and live in parking lots. Shopping areas are not where you live and experience the majority of your life, your house, neighborhood, and immediate suburb or town you live in is. And that's the part that counts, not where Walmart or the shopping center is. I fail to see your point other than you want to paint an inaccurate picture of what day to day life in America is.
