>>540840473As an Irish/Italian American, it’s super simple. Birth control. Both sides of my family were huge and had tons of kids until boomers/Gen X, then it dwindled to maybe one kid, usually none. Millennials maybe had one. So a family clan became tiny, many moved away from the enclave areas, and if they married they usually married a protestant not catholic so, the birth control, no kids cycle continues. Only one of my cousins had 3+ kids, that’s the Italian side. I am the ONLY one of my grandmothers progeny to have a child, that the Irish side, some further out cousins had one or two kids, one had 3 I think. These are all people whose grandparents were one of 3-12+ children. It’s all birth control at the heart, you can cite politics, economics, assimilation but the exact reason is the women (they married or the women from the family) took birth control, very very few abortions ever reported tho I’m sure happened quietly but all the women boomer onwards will brag about the pill.
