Government regulation is the reason why this isn't a regular occurrence in first world countries. Although due to the fact that Trump is gutting OSHA and other federal regulation and safety agencies, you can expect this to become a lot more common.

Lol those early cars didn't even have rear differntials, which is a device connected to the rear wheels that allows each rear wheel to freely spin independently from eachother.

In other words say you're turning a sharp right, imagine the distance and angle the right rear will be going in versus the much wider and faster the rear left would be. The differential allows each rear wheel to smoothly operate independently.

When you don't have one like in the early cars there will be a jerking/sliding/lagging motion that would buffet the car.

Yeah, an antique, you smoothbrained motherfucker. That's not the point. You're showing me a used century-old car that escaped the modern new-car regulatory regime because it was manufactured before those standards existed. I'm talking about whether an American company today could manufacture and sell that same car as a new mass-market product.

>gutting OSHA
I fucking hate osha. It needs to be gutted. Maybe not the way trump is allegedly gutting it but it needs to be done. Yes some sort of centralized safety regulation is necessary. OSHA is awful. Most people are ignorant of it entirely and just assume more safety is always better. People specialized in the field tend to be fully indoctrinated in terms of both goal and process and resistant to system wide reform.

But in terms of policy weighed either in terms of protecting workers or saving costs the current system is a clusterfuck. It is what you get when you have overly strict and minute regulation with a very low level of actual enforcement. In many industries it is simply ignored until there is an accident. You may never see osha on the job for a random inspection in an entire career.

But in stricter industrial settings it is worse. Safety is enforced instead by fear of lawsuits. Rare cases with such incredibly high prices that insurance firms and company safety teams gear entire systems around them. It results in very strict and honestly silly regulations to show that a strong safety protocol is in place and enforced. Documentation takes priority over harm reduction.

In either event they have a strong tendency to hyper fixate on highly visible easily enforced infractions rather than ones more likely to be hazardous. We are basically living in the worst of both worlds with complicated socialist bureaucracy and anarchy capitalist penalty enforcement through lawsuits. Both systems are shit. Massive top down reform needs to happen to replace them with evidence based rules.

No I am not saying that is what trump is doing. Honestly I don't know what he is doing and haven't paid attention. I am just complaining about osha and the idea that people actually defend it as though it were some sort of genuine safety net.

those black tyre (tire) burnout marks on the road and the shadows maybe fooled the autosystem, clearly shows things have to be nailed down and fully tested before it's allowed on the road even if the autodrive system even in that state is far better than humans driving as a whole. OSHA exists to protect employers from wrongful injury/death lawsuits. They couldn't give two shits about your health and safety. Problem is that the idea of safety is usually an excuse to make something worse or ban shit the government and corporations don't like
For instance: most gun "laws" and recently, the bullshit they're putting in cars now.

That is true to some degree. But the poorly made regulation is often pointed at as a blanket excuse to convince dumb voters to be okay with the removal of all regulations regardless of the good they do.

Yeah for the size and number of angles it'd be a colossal cunt to get right.

Especially out of austenitic stainless, they lose basically all precision formability after a bend due to work hardening (you can bash it out, but will have a crease of harder metal).

Yep, 250 miles for $40K or 500 miles for $70K. Telsa took over a million preoders on these promises. I'm glad at least one other person remembers because no one else ever brings this up and I believe this rampant unwillingness to hold corporations to their promises is one of the major reasons things have gotten so bad over the years. Both my grandfathers would have refused to pay a penny over $39,900 on principle alone. Where is the principle now? Why does everyone just accept whatever garbage billionaires are willing to toss at them?
>>
>>540845974
Government regulation is a tool corporations use to prevent competition. No competition means they can offer worse vehicles for more money. Idk about Norway but here in the US car manufacturers lobbied that no Chinese cars are allowed and now the average new car sells for over $50K.

The short answer version to your question is 70 years of consumerism brainwashing. Think of each generation since 1950 as a human version. Version 1, 2, 3 and so on. Each version grew up exposed to more and more sophisticated brainwashing and propaganda techniques.

Long story short millenials were the last version that had any remnants of the earliest version. Zoomers and beyond can be considered a true 2.0. Fiscal restraint is not even a concept taught or talked about anymore. Everyone wants to live like a rapper or their fav rich influencer and if that means swimming in an ocean of debt they will do so.

They are desperate for the next product and don't care at all about the principles or practices of the company as long as they don't lose access to the product.

When the Cybertruck was announced, my brother-in-law was interested in buying a fleet of them for his landscaping business. The range of the lowest price model was good for the distances his crews typically traveled in a day, as was the original bed size and cargo capacity. His business was located in an old hot tub factory so it had far more electrical capacity than they need. He loved the idea that at the end of the day, they'd plug all of the trucks in and they'd be ready to go in the morning. With his fleet of pickups, it's a logistical problem keeping them fueled up and ready to go each day. He got burned several times when he gave workers credit cards to fill them up. Now he has an employee whose primary job is making sure the trucks always have enough fuel for the next day's use.
But of course the price went up and the bed shrank, so it wasn't a very good deal anymore. Another person burned by Elon's false promises.

Yeah but they changed it to "Cyberquad for Kids" with a max speed of 10mph. Presumably this was done because a full size quad will no longer fit in the CT bed? You can buy one for $1,600.

>Cyberquad for Kids was the third Tesla product produced by Radio Flyer for Tesla. The battery operates at 36 volts, with 0.288 kilowatt-hours (288 Wh) of electrical capacity giving a range of up to 15 miles (24 km) or approximately one hour of use per charge. There are two speed settings, one for 5 mph (8 km/h) and one for 10 mph (16 km/h). On October 27, 2022, the Cyberquad for Kids was recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for failing to comply with safety requirements for youth ATVs, including mechanical suspension and maximum tire pressure. The Cyberquad for Kids (Model 915) was made available for purchase again in November 2023, with the clarification that it is a toy, not an ATV.

Old cars were built to be extremely tough. But they also had no safety features. You could roll a model T down a ravine and drive it away from the bottom, but only after you scraped the previous driver's remains out of it.
