Some of the best-prepared divisions of Germany were stationed in France and American army was mostly Africans. So it was Africans fighting the very best the Reich could offer. It is a miracle they actually managed to roll through France that fast and win the Battle of the Bulge too. And it is always easier to defend than attack.
