Look, Donald trump has his hands tied on the issue of guns. Even if he wanted to implement gun control (which I have no doubt that he actually does in some ways), he has an institutional restriction in the form of the Republican party's voter base. i.e., no Republican voter is going to forgive such a betrayal, and a new political insurgency over guns will sweep the party and threaten the incumbency of several GOP congressmen and senators. The party leaders know this. Hence, the likelihood of trump actually doing more gun control is extremely low.

With that said, I have no doubt that trump certainly can get away with doing more gun control, but that's a risk worth taking compared to how shameless, aggressive, opportunistic, and brazen the Democrats are every time they have a chance at implementing more gun control. Virginia is the model for the whole country:

I never denied that donald trump wanted to implement gun control. In fact, I admitted it. I only enumerated one institutional restriction, but there are others, such as the courts. Like I pointed out before, as concerning as the trump attempts are, the Democratic attempts at gun control are far more explicit. The strategic approach would be to support the GOP candidate on the gun issue over the Democrat one, simply because the gun control lobby is far stronger on the Democrat side.
