One thing that Westerners overlook about Russia is that no sensible person takes religion seriously there. Most Christians are Christians only because their parents decided so and they couldn’t care less about religion, most Muslims are Muslims only because their parents decided so and they couldn’t care less about Islam. Russia literally has one of the lowest rates of church and mosque attendance relative to its population. Give it a generation or two, and it will turn into a nation with a mild form of atheism, where religion is more a part of history and culture than something people take even slightly seriously. It's the same with ideology, nobody gives a damn whether it's communism, capitalism, democracy, or whatever; they've already had enough of it over the past 100 years with the Soviet Union and its collapse.
