I've been going through James Ellroy's Freddy Otash series and it is salacious as hell.

Is this the guy who sold 80 copies in 3.5 months and claimed his book was "a hit"?

The book is free on kindle and has a cheap paperback edition for around 6$ (depending on the region)
Most people usually get the cheap option but let's assume literally EVERYONE got the hardcover edition for 12$.
That's around 960$ total, or sub 300 dollars a month, or 9$ every day.
9$ on a whole day. That's the same amount of money a food delivery rider makes in 30 minutes on average.

But it's actually worse than this, because Amazon takes a 60% cut for books that are 10$ or more. So it's closer to 3,50$ of profits every day. That's a third world child sweatshop salary.

But you can only talk about "profits" if the book was written in 20 minutes by ChatGPT; if you put in the hours spent actually writing the book, it's more likely you straight up lost money in the process.
That doesn't count as a "success" in any conceivable sense of the word.

Brandon SanderGOD is the only author anyone needs to read (other than the Book of Mormon), his Cosmere universe is like the MCU of literature.

Upon reading this witticism penned by Brandon Sanderson, I cackled aloud with gusto so hard that my hat nearly fell off.

Do you get it? Ass sass, assassin? It’s so brilliant that I’m not even sure if it’s a pun or a play on words.

Look man, I don't even want to diss you or your books. They're short but well written as far as I know, I can only judge them by the cover. And they're good covers, at least they would stand out in a library by going all in on minimalism when most modern books embraced a more flashy and overcrowded aesthetic.
If you want to write novels in a world where nobody reads anymore, I respect the courage. Clearly you're doing it for the art rather than the grift, as it's one of the least lucrative ways to spend your time.
Chase that dream, I'm rooting for you.

Just, cool it with the delusions of grandeur. Being ranked n.190500 in the kindle Best Sellers is not "success". People are more likely to give you a chance in general if you avoid being always incredibly arrogant. Hostility won't win you any favors. Unless that's your brand, and even then it's a highly debatable strategy to build an audience.
There are better ways to promote your stuff than asking ChatGPT to recreate movie scenes with your books slapped inside, then spamming them on 4chan of all places.
Success is a game of luck so there's no 100% tested winning strategy, but there are surely wrong moves. And limiting your promotion to schizos on a small website is probably among them.

Mistborn was pretty good, but FUCK he needs an editor. Holy fucking shit ONE of his goddamn Way of Kings books is the size of the entirety of Lord of the Rings.
