Going by the picture in the OP, this kid lives in a nice neighborhood, probably great schools, mostly white with the only minorities being koreans or chinese.I tutor my kids during the summer, I give them books to read and singapore math books to work on their own with little supervision. The work they receive in school is a year ahead of that. Working them up to it just gets them to the average point. Practically every kid in the classroom has an IEP. Class of 20, and two teachers in the classroom, early 30s or late 20s and getting paid 100k. Dedicated speech language pathologists for the school if a kid so much as stutters. After school cram study and one on one tutoring. Fun afterschool lego and minecraft program? Actually its an autismmaxxing stress generator telling kids they have to build and automate things with redstone. Every conservatory nearby is booked with kids playing violin, piano, etc. Every summer there is some STEM camp, interlochen, etc. At those standards, every parent I've talked to is stressed and anxious. They expected their kid to be in the top percentile and under the school rubric they're grinding to stay average or leave a special education program, because if your kid isn't confident doing multiplication in second grade they slap a retard label on him.
