The full picture would take entirely too long to break down in detail, but the short version of it is that we currently overpay for medical care and everyone gets charged for it multiple times. You get money taken out of your paycheck, you pay state and federal taxes for healthcare subsidies, AND you still pay out of pocket on top of all of that anyway. All to pay into a for-profit healthcare system whose goal is NOT to provide healthcare to as many people as possible as efficiently as they can, but to make money. If they can provide worse healthcare and make more money doing it, they will. They have a fiduciary responsibility to do so. They WANT an ambulance ride to cost you $3500 even if all they did was drive you to the hospital and give you a 20 cent saline bag you didn't need.

The insurance companies are a middleman that inflates prices for their own profits, and make their money by making sure that you pay for medical care than you never receive. The relationship that they have with hospitals drives up prices across the board in a parasitic relationship. Hospitals then base their charges on the insurance payout schemes, which again are wildly inflated. This is a scam even on the best of days, but now ask yourself: what happens when someone doesn't HAVE insurance?

There is no insurance company to charge, but the prices are still inflated to insurance company scam rates. The hospital has to treat people that show up to the emergency room even if they cannot pay, which honestly is a good thing because the alternative is pretty horrible, but the hospital is now saddled with the debt. States and the federal government then pay off the debt of these unpayable ER visits, because states do not want hospitals to close down, they WANT people to have hospitals and so they cannot let them go under. That cost is then paid for by the taxpayer.

1) the health insurance system in america is 100% broken. The insurance companies are the biggest lobbyists eclipsing everything else, they set up a situation of privatized profits and socialized costs. Because of that, they have every single incentive to inflate prices to ludicrous levels, $50 for a dishrag, $100 for an advil...etc. There is no efficiency in this industry, which is supposed to be the whole fucking point of market mechanisms.

2) According to theory, the price of certain things are doomed tl rise for average people. Namely, housing, healthcare, and education. Because of modern trends this is greatly exacerbating. Those 3 items are what kills *everyone*, except immigrants who get them subsidized.

3) You cannot chide americans for not saving money when state-level economic policy is to gin up consumption and spending as high as possible using every concievable means. I have family in Canada, any of which used to live in the states. Their healthcare is fine. Those things are already subsidized in America, anon. Heavily, even. The problem is that the system is so broken that the subsidies don't matter, we shovel taxpayer money into those things just go directly into the pockets of the middlemen. We subsidize housing for 20% and they just raise home prices by the same amount and pocket it as record profits.
There is no amount of money you can shovel into a for-profit system that will make it not be a wealth extraction enterprise. Addressing the underlying issue is what is required.

The underlying issue is this. I'll try my best to explain.
There is a supply and demand for human genes. The genes that code for a low skill laborer are less in demand, because of manufacturing, automation...etc. Making this worse, the supply is increasing with immigration. Thus capital, and high skill workers, run away with the game.

Now the price of things which can be mass produced comes down for everyone. Computer mouse, chairs, springs...etc. But some things cannot be mass produced, and there's the rub. Particularly housing, education, and healthcare. The poor are forced to bid against the rich, and come up short. Those 3 things are what's killing everyone, that's your $50,000 hospital bill, your $20,000 tuition, your $1 million house...etc.
But if you could subsidize someone for those 3 things, as immigrants are, they would get all the advantages og mass production abundance, with none of the downside. That's why I say, subsidy here goes further.

There are some checks against this trend nowadays. AI is taking highskill jobs. Highskill immigrants are increasing their supply. Therefore this should, theoretically, make lowskill workers more valuable on the balance of it.
