Most mental health meds have big down sides. The person feels too emotionally flat or whatever. But when on meds and better they can pass a competence test that by law means they can choose to go off meds or leave a facility. So they cycle starts again. Then you also have the cost and location issue. We don't have free health care and nobody wants a nut house near their neighborhood.
