There were different races, and the caste system was later created as a means of keeping them apart. However the upper classes were overwhelmed by the sheer reproduction of the lower classes, and some left and some got mixed. Everyone in India today is simply the previous brown population that was never able to do anything of note.India was case study 1 of "demographics is destiny".
