On a bigger political scale, Israel is attempting the same in the Middle East. They would support any kind of separatist minority in neighbouring countries, be it Kurds or Druze, because the more diverse the Middle East gets, the easier it would be for such a foreign non-Arabic, non-Muslim, non-local entity to fit in. That is the gist of the strategy.
