My childhood friend became a huge WoW addict (I introduced it to him in 2005) he dropped out of high school to play WoW all day, attended blizzcons, read all the WoW lore books, etc. Some time around 2009 or 2010 he became some hardcore social justice warrior. It was a test of your time, not skill, so yeah it did kinda suck to grind, and you would be behind an unemployed no-life, but there wasn't anything super nefarious behind it, unlike the jewish shit that is in every multiplayer game now that makes the game not only shitty and boring but also a fucking skinner box social engineering project to extract your sanity.Total accident that they hit the perfect middle-ground. You could no-life rank 14, or raid and get together with 40 people (back when raiding was hard because players sucked and their PCs were shit), or you could just hit 60 and enjoy the "second life" RPG experience of meeting people and doing content while having an adventure. Maybe raid a little in smaller 20- or 10-man raids (ZG, UBRS, AQ 20), raid in older content in the bigger 40-mans when the new stuff was out. Each extreme and middle ground had goals to strive for. It was absolutely perfect, and I say this as someone who started in 2007 (TBC) and only realized WoW pre-expansion era as my favorite game of all time when I replayed the flawed Classic version in 2019. Before that, WoW: The Lich King might've scraped my top 5 or 10 as an "experience". Classic WoW as a game is near-perfect on its own.

I find that horde actually conduct themselves with way more honor than alliance. Like horde will 1v1 fight your ass over some quest mobs. Alliance will run away unless they have numbers advantage on your or call a high level guild member. Didnt matter to me though. My sl/sl warlock in full arena gear could easily kill any 2 or 3 alliance who stand in my way.
