Didn't Trump campaign on fixing this?
>>
>>541086690
it's never getting payed down. nor is there a reason to.

>>541086690
$750 billion for israel!
>>
The tariffs and the cutting of federal jobs were the two main points the Trump admin did to combat the deficit. To underscore this, tariffs would've saved the country 2 trillion a year if they hadn't been gutted by biden appointed federal judges. The one clear aspect he fucked up on in this regard was increase the military budget to 1 trillion a year. Currently we spend about 3 trillion on social services for the poor and elderly.

He cut taxes on the rich even further somehow. What did you expect was gonna happen? It's still mind bending to me that people thought a guy as status hungry and greedy as Trump was going to put the needs of "the help" first. That's how he sees us, for the record: a group of people who exist as supporting characters in a TV show about him.

It was always just going to be about Trump.
>>
>>541086690
It's not a problem if you just don't care, fuck it, change the minus to a plus. The fuck shlomo gonna do?
>>
>>541086690
unfortunately, reality is not compatible with Trump-math
>>
>>541086690
Turns out he’s a pathological liar like other politicians

Why would an Australian care about America's debt? >>541086690

This is both untrue and incomplete. Trump also cut Medicare and SNAP. He also cut taxes on the rich. Tariffs might have made up some of the difference, but in another sense this point is nonsensical because this goal is at odds with some of his other stated goals for tariffs: bringing manufacturing back to America and, unfortunately... revenge, I guess?

It doesn't all cohere because tariffs can't offset the deficit if imports decrease, thereby diminishing their revenue. And even in this case, had manufacturing returned, the diminished taxes had no plausible path towards materially reducing debt in the first place.

What Trump fans often miss is something extremely simple: if illegal tariffs were going to be a part of his plan, he should have chosen a different way of enacting them. He shouldn't have based the literal economic future of the country on a gamble he knew might not pay off... especially because the numbers never actually checked out in light of his full economic plans.

The job of scotus is to interpret and uphold the law. Sometimes it does a good job, sometimes it doesn't. The law here, unfortunately, was so clean-cut that even this court had to strike them down 6-3.

Nvidia will fix everything trust the plan.

>>541086690
Do these numbers even mean anything anymore? UK is the same, trillions in debt, yet nothing ever happens, its obvious that these countries will never pay these debts, and everything just continue working just as normal.

If i was, let say... 50 million pounds on debt, on my wage, it would be pretty fucking obvious to anybody that I am never going to pay, at the very least the banks and even the loan sharks would stop giving me more money.

The price of everything gradually goes up and the quality of everything gradually goes down. Currency depreciation is a slow burn until it isn’t.
>>
>>541086690
he tried to fix it with tarrifs and general threats to other countries. but that only made it worse, predictably by pretty much everyone
>>
>>541086690
Debt isn't real. What is 40 trillion for a country that literally has trillionaires walking around?

If we want some version of the current order to survive, the only real option is austerity. Part of why AI spending is so big right now is that the West is a zombie stumbling towards the fallacy of infinite growth. No one wants to break the fourth wall and admit that things are pretty fucked, and that there's likely a hard upper limit to how far we can stretch the current model without breaking it. The people who do realize it don't want to be the ones caught holding the bag.

Part of the problem is also self-interest. If e.g. the US alone decides to go back to 50s-era marginal taxes, capital flight will be a real thing. For all Europe's pretense of leftism, they would gladly accept and buttress American companies and talent looking to relocate. America would lose, euros would win, and we wouldn't even get rid of the current system -- we'd kind of just restart it, most likely.

If the global economy crashes in its entirety, however, loads might be better balanced. That's how I think these richfags might be thinking of it amongst themselves, at least.
>>
The debt isnt a problem so long as the USD remains the defacto world currency
>>
>>541091768
It's absolutely a problem because we have to pay interest on it. There exists a level of debt which we can no longer pay off at all without printing huge amounts of money, at which point the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.

You can't fix fractional reserve banking, you idiot. There is no fixing this, and we're not the only country loaded with debt. Everyone is loaded, and the debt owed exceeds the total amount of currency in circulation globally.
There is a way to fix it, technically, but good luck actually getting it done. You have to attack and destroy the bank that holds the debt, and erase that debt using military force. And you have to do it globally, as a coalition, all at once. Because if just the US killed its bank, it would cause other countries to panic and immediately cease business with the US, isolating us. We would need at least 5 other major economies to strike their banks with us, China, Japan, Germany, Brazil, and one other one.
And you would need an immediate replacement for those banks ready to back the new currencies with tangible goods/collateral.

We don't get out of this without somebody being destroyed. And I mean absolutely destroyed. Either the bank is destroyed, or human civilization is destroyed. But destruction must happen.

PS: the US wants to switch from oil to compute/data. That's why they're dumping all hope into AI. They need it to succeed to sell computational power to the world. It's not going well. Jensen has been blowing smoke up people's ass.

debt to whom? how is that creditor plans on collecting/enforcing it? if the FED plans to use ICC to enforce the debt then I've got news for you. you think cops and military will enforce the collection in their nation?

The last US president who actually kept a balanced budget was Bill Clinton. My dad would say that often in the face of the Evangelicals talking about how Bush was restoring "morality" to the country (my dad had been raised Roman Catholic himself). Things have only gone downhill for the country since then. Half of the beaners are voting Republican now by the way.
