SIDS is a real but rare thing. Babies in the first 3-6 months of life are super fragile. It wouldn't shock me if on very rare occasions one they has a heart or lunch issue and they just die quietly in their sleep. Once upon a time, humans did not live under such nice conditions. Babies are wonderful and they fill every human heart with joy. They also require intense care and resources. Most mother animals in nature have conditions under which they will abandon children, and all human civilization up until the invention of abortion had records of mothers either abandoning or killing their infant children under certain stressful conditions. Abortion only changed that by making it safe to do prior to birth rather than after. It seems to simply be part of nature that it is often more rational for the mother to prioritize herself and her future ability to try again on children than to double or triple down on one particular child, at potential total cost to both mother and child.It doesn't seem like a modern woman should have any such conditions, so SIDS I would expect is when the instinctual triggers for infanticide occur in a woman even if the situation doesn't totally warrant it. This may not align totally with the actual conditions, but it doesn't have to, the triggers are in the woman's perception of her situation, since objective truth is outside of subjective viewpoints. If we want to work on SIDS, we would need to determine what thoughts and feelings cause human mothers to think they must abandon their children, and figure out how to prevent those thoughts and feelings from arising.
