You should listen to it more than once to help train your ear to keep up with the speed and subtle variations. It's often too dense, or too "busy" for untrained ears to keep up with. Don't just listen to a song for 20 seconds and say, "I don't like this" and turn it off, leave it on and let it cook for a bit. Listen to at least one full song and then listen to it a couple more times. It will sound different the 2nd or 3rd time through. The first time it will probably sound very repetitive, but on the 2nd and 3rd time through, you'll be able to keep track of the different layers and hear more of the subtle variations in the song. Metal is definitely an acquired taste.
