Let them eat the losses, don't bail them out, and rebuild the system better without them. Without the medical insurance industry in the way we can just skip directly to universal healthcare and have a single-payer system for cheaper. 401ks getting nuked will suck, but there's 30 years for that to bounce back before retirement is on the table for my generation so maybe we'll be okay by then. The current retirees will get fucked over, but also their generation sold out the rest of us for their own comfort so if anyone deserves to eat the consequences of their actions its them. Thats just karma.
