With the dawn of AI, they no longer need us. They don't need us to figure out how to do things. They don't need us to work in factories, they have robots for that. Furthermore, many of them, believe that there are too many of us, that we are bad for the environment, and that our negatives (pollution, crime, retardation) outweigh the positives (economic production, sex toys, artistic value). In previous generations, if the elites killed their subjects en masse, then the elites would lose their power, because they'd no longer have anyone to fight for them, or anyone to work in their factories or on their farms.
