Apparently, they were close to striking a deal. Both sides made concessions, with Canada agreeing to ease up on issues like dairy supply management to get it done. But at the last minute, Howard Lundnik stepped in and started changing the agreement, assuming Canada would accept it anyway. The negotiators and Prime Minister rejected it. Trump and his goons are untrustworthy weasels; any deal with them isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. There’s just no reasoning with them. Of course, most Americans have no idea how badly their reputation has suffered from dishonorably breaking agreements and lying constantly with an incompetent buffoon as their leader. It's tiresome.

Unironically it would have been a massive win for Trump if this went through. Carney was willing to open up the dairy blocks and capitulate on some auto tariffs. But, as always, the US tried sneaking in more concessions and got too greedy.
This entire thing just goes to show that America is not an honest negotiator and will require massive admin changes to prove it wants to be a mutually beneficial partner.
>>

>assuming Canada would accept it anyway
Should've accepted when they had a chance. Things and the next deal offers will get only worse for Canada. Republicans aren't going anywhere any time soon. The time of the weak America with Democrats kissing the asses of so-called "allies" is over.

They are, in fact, going away very soon. Canada will end up with a better deal when the orange buffoon is gone.

What happened was JD Vance made fun of Carney at a fundraiser that got leaked for puffing out his chest then capitulating before spinning a victory speech to US how he handled the evil orange man.

Carney pulled the plug after not any last minute changes by Americans

Canadians are unfortunately in a period of mass delusion, similar to TDS. They will suffer for it. Good luck to all Canadians and their king.
>>
>>541201515
Honestly I think that might end up being the approach moving forward. no deal is better than a bad deal.
>>
Mark Carney brings the kind of steady, principled leadership Canada needs. With his experience leading the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England through global crises, he’s proven he can navigate tough economic waters with skill and resolve. He understands how to build a strong, sustainable economy that works for everyone—and he has the credibility and backbone to stand up to leaders like Donald Trump in any trade war. He has my vote, and I hope he has yours too.

trumps a farce of what it would take to actually fix the country but leftists are just trying to pretend the long slow economic die off their policies drove at every turn was good.
entire globe has taken up an economic stance of destroying local business prospects to protect local class dynamics and supporting the nation on banana republic style selling externally.
given this shits destroying public buying power globally while just highlighting how scummy and incestuous ruling classes are everywhere its just going to get bloody.
they seem to be setting up for the usual external wars used to vent dissenters but public trust is banging on the floor of things just technically still running even as the gears burn.

whatever petty enthusism they can drum up initially is going to crater once the hell of modern drone warfare hits and that floor of normalcy is going to crumble into sheer panic.

>>
>>541202746
It's not a mentality or FAKE NEWS propaganda, It's literally what happened. Trump decided he wanted to shakedown Canada with threats and tariffs. Trump is attempting to force reciprocity in market access across the two countries. You don't want that, so good luck to you. It's very simple, Canada does not play fair and is the #1 China transshipment smuggler into the US. Canada not only rips off the US, but continually plays the victim.

Please just GO THEN, go away and do the many, many things Carney said you will be doing. We will risk our own destruction by not choosing to do trade with you. In fact, we will be canceling what you call CUSMA in a number of months once the bilateral arrangement with Mexico is in place.

Smells like some "art of the deal" garbage, honestly. This is one of Trump's gay, dishonest pressure tactics. Work through everything, get an agreement ironed out that mostly works for both sides and then, right before you ink it and shake hands... add additional stipulations which totally fuck the other entity over. It relies on the assumption that the other party might be exhausted from the negotiation and willing to get fucked just to be done dealing with it.

I don't think this has worked out literally once for Trump. He did the same thing with Zelensky, if you recall, in the oval office -- establish the terms of the press conference and then try to make Zelensky humiliate himself by agreeing to something he didn't agree to.

Trump is just a gigantic, dishonest fag.

In business negotiation that strategy is known as nibbling. It's commonly used. However, it relies on the other party being poor at negotiation or having weak bargaining power to accept it.

So the fact that Canada rejected this nibble is a sign of strong negotiating power.

There is no such thing as honest or dishonest negotiation until some act of force is applied.

In the Americans defense, Trudeau and Carney have both kept the CAD 25~30% lower than it's natural worth vs the USD (.70 usd per cad when it should be more like .8~.85)
This is to boost exports and reduce imports, and is extremely abusive to do to our direct neighbor, main trade partner and defense provider.

Duh. However laws are still written like family farms are the norm. It's why farms can pay Mexican children a few cents a day to pick tomatoes. Laws are written like you're going around your country town hiring some local boys to work the harvest on Saturday and not like you're treating Mexican children like field niggers.

You're still assuming that Trump wanted a deal in the first place. Canada has always been on his shitlist since Trudeau tried to mog him during his first term. All the escalating demands and 51st state talk is just humiliation. The mere notion of negotiating with Canada is offensive to him because he literally does not consider Canada a sovereign nation. And in a way, he's right. Foreign governments and criminal gangs literally set up their own personal fiefdoms on Canadian soil, complete with their own mercantilism economies and law enforcement that the Canadian government doesn't dare to touch. China runs massive drug and money laundering through casinos and banks and sets up secret police stations to make sure its operatives know where their loyalties lie. India runs visa and telecom scams along with its own assassination squad to cull any separatist groups. Jews maintain mafia control of dairy and other key economic sectors across multiple provinces and all flavors of middle east sandniggers run terror squad training camps innawoods. And yet for some reason, Canadians seem to oppose American influence the most despite being the most benign of foreign influence. The only explanation is that the Canadian government doesn't actually exist and they're all foreign puppets being used to antagonize and counter American interests.
>>
>>541204624
I actually agree, I'm just saying if enough Canadians got assblasted about muh subsidization, Canada can either subsidize themselves or impose a tariff in the amount of the US subsidization to get back to zero (from that perspective). That's how it *should* work, just minor nits here and there to get things mostly balanced. That's where I personally want things.

They *want* everything to fall apart, some they can point and say "See? Look how much worse things got after midterms! Vote for us in 2028, and we'll fix it~" And, considering 54% of this country can't read past a 6th grade level, many of them will fall for it.

We have supply management because Canada has been stuck in the middle of the trade war between the US and Europe that has been going on since the 50s.

The only way we can avoid having our local food production crushed by market flooding from one or the other is by staying out of it and keeping our production purely to ourselves.

And because our govt is already capped out on spending for every socialist policy imaginable, they don't have the cash to spare to subsidize these industry at every level like the US and Europe does.
Supply management doesn't exist because of a shadowy cartel of dairy producers. It exists because it's the best option for us. The alternative is having no production and becoming wholly depended on the US for all our foods.

Crushing you will be a minor inconvenience, one that hasn't been worth the effort, but its time you learn your place.

You will be a minority by then.

Walking away is itself a tactic.
Issuing a public statement is a tactic.
You will make a deal because you cant afford not too.
The fact is that Canada is not capable of being fully independent, your economy is not self sufficient.

>Just let everyone compete
Then our dairy industry vanishes because the US will never stop subsidizing theirs, and they also benefit greatly from the illegal workforce costing them pennies.

China disagrees.

>On track to have the second largest growth

Lol well I would fucking hope so since that last 5 year annual change has been worse and worse. You can only go so low.

What's funny about this chart, is that if the last few trends repeat itself, 2027 will be in the deep red. Hell, there's still 4 months left, it could happen in 2026.

China cares because of transshipping (smuggling) to the US market.

>But, as always, the US tried sneaking in more concessions and got too greedy.
That's just becoming the western world now. Unbridled greed

More of smashing a spider you never bothered with, because you'd have to wet a paper towel and wipe up its guts and there's other things more pressing.

It's all of the about disapproval. Whether rednecks know it or not, Trump will suffer politically from rising prices.. I can't wait for him to lose and then turn on his voters for not supporting him hard enough. He will do that. He will never accept responsibility
>>
>>541204884
No we didn't/ The opposite actually.

>>541205414
Trump will suffer from raising prices, but Carney won't suffer by raising prices and handicapping our industries?
>>
>>541205414
Scott Adams was a massive cuck and faggot, but one thing he was right about is, when you're 100% certain you can read someone's mind, you're probably currently fucking up.

It's really pathetic how you get triggered by the thought of republicans losing. What a sad loser.

It's 100% this and I feel bad for the people that have to smile and nod at him because he's thinking he gets away with this every time. The Chinese responded by fucking him right back until eventually a judge told Trump to drop it and then Trump's rich mates kept the tariff money (remember how that was supposed to go to Americans? lol).
>>
reminder, the Canadian dollar was at par with the USD once. And then Canada mass imported jeets and voted for liberal faggots and ruined the country after roughly 2006.

They do not like you, and do not like your performative emotional jerkoff shit, and want to see everything you have stood for your entire life rolled back (at minimum). I agree with them.

Rely is not the right term. It's just more economical for some border states to tap into the Canadian grid instead of building up their infrastructure. And it's not like Canada is their sole supplier. All states have electrical connection with others. It just doesn't get turned on if another supplier is cheaper. Same with oil. Sure you can cut them off but it's just gonna force them to spend money to build up their own grid. Once that's done, they won't be coming back.

What's striking is just how inept he actually is. He has concentrated the largest amount of personal power in the history of America. He's the president, a billionaire, and the head of a cult of personality. He is able to whimsically marshal basically any resource America has in order to accomplish his objectives.

Despite this, he somehow manages to still fuck everything up. For some reason, he insists on ignoring the experience of some of the best people in the world at everything he deals with and insists on manually fucking up everything he can. Instead of getting a team of gigabrain international negotiators with advanced degress from Georgetown who've been doing this literal thing for thirty fucking years, he decides to deal with everyone as if they're a parking garage in the Bronx he wants to tear down to build a 4000 foot tall glass penis.

It just makes no fucking sense.

Pretty accurate description, I think a large weakness of his too is this pathological, desperate need to be liked. He's utterly allergic to any kind of bad press. At the same time, we can see repeatedly he wants to be seen as this "great president of history", but he doesn't understand/have the strength of character to stick to any serious big choice. At the same time, he's a massive coward as well who only wants to go for what looks like easy wins.

Eg: repeatedly betraying his voters on dealing with illegal immigration, he doesn't do mass deportations because oh no bad media story. It'll take time, he'd have to stick up for officers when bad shit happens, but he's also completely selfish so why should he?

In this way, you (as a nefarious corporate actor) can leverage his vanity and greed as weapons against his cowardice.
The little people, the voters, can't do much to him once he's got their votes, but big monied actors can sponsor bad press about him which is why the entire Fox News channel is centered around speaking almost *to* him, because in so many ways it actually is.

Zognald and migger republicans are treasonous traitors for Israel.

Nah it you and people like you. You can blame others all you want but the truth is retarded crackhead white trash tweakers who have killed all their braincells eventually become Zognald supporters and that's probably what you are. Its retarded burn out wiggers like you that got Trump elected.
>>
Why don't both sides just drop all tariffs and have free trade?
>>
>>541206640
That would be ideal. Or at least return to status quo trade between US and Canada 15 years ago.
