My nine year old and I were watching Ocean’s Eleven and I came to a realization about white privilege. There is an innocuous scene in the middle of the movie where Bernie Mac calls Matt Damon a “Cracker”. My son swings his head around and says “What did he call him?” I repeated it. He looked perplexed and asked why he called him that.I thought to myself for a minute and said, it’s a racial slur, it’s intended to hurt his feelings. My son said “that’s stupid. How could calling someone a cracker hurt their feelings?”It was then that I realized neither he nor I had ever experienced any form of real racism in our lives. That being white and knowing that race is not an issue for us... took away any damage a racial slur could do.

Gotta make sure you get them young. Make sure you show him all the big trilogies before he hits puberty it's gonna make the hormones hit so much better.

>>541208306Is this the realisation you had, or the 9yo had? And is this 9yo in the room with you right now?
As someone who grew up pretty privileged and sheltered in Mumbai, I feel the same too. I've obviously never experienced racism in India. But even in my last 11 yrs in Canada, I have never experienced this so-called mythical white racism outside of 4chan imageboards. The only people who were mean to me were Arabs (moslems), punjabi Indians, and niggers.Everyone else in Canada has been pretty chill.>>541208396>>541208411>>541208434>>541208438>>541208449
