North, especially north west feels like afghanistan, no women in the streets, retarded sheep herders , dust and poverty. South is a cool tropical place with beautiful animals and beautiful landscapes. South india can be compared to Vietnam or Thailand when it comes to climate, urban planning. So I would say typical emerging country feel, similar to brazil, morocco etc. India is indeed a very modern country in a lot of places, they have plenty of modern infrastructure, the real shithole videos you see are in the north.
