While USA spend money on Nato, Europe spend money on American goods and services and allow USA to have bases around the continent. I do agree Europe should spend more on Nato, but I don't think USA wants Europe to be self-sufficient either. That would mean Europe would become another competitor in terms of military power on the market. It's not like we lack manpower nor competence in terms of raising an army and development with 600 million in population. Whereas 170 million are within the age of 18-50.Or at least that's what I believe.I don't really get why Trump is trying to divide Europe and USA as much as he does. He has no interest in this, so my assumption is people around him keeps giving him praise while also telling him what to do, since he is pretty easy to manipulate as we've seen for a while.
