Recently I learned your brain chemistry can actually get nerfed especially after substance abuse and SSRI's can regulate the proper chemicals to not feel tired, miserable, and antisocial all the time. If antidepressants were heavily regulated more and not freely prescribed so easily would /pol/ agree in the positive benefits of them?

>>541289510There isnt actually even a theory how SSRIs work. They do not actually inhibit serotonin reuptake. They are discovered by accident when testing new medication for completely different usages and do infact show an effect in double blind studies. They are random medications that do random stuff to the brain and in some patients they have a positive measureable effect.It's kinda like when there is a bug in a computer program and you blast the RAM with ionizing radiation to flip random bits and in 20% of the cases the program continues for a while. I don't know if that is a good method of treatment.

Otherwise, depending on your dosage/tolerance you are making yourself less reactive and sluggish. I guess it could be good for nerves, but if they are pronounced enough to the point where you need benzos, you probably should be having second thoughts.

>>541289510Been on basic dose oxycontin for almost 15 years due to fucked up leg from a car crash when I was a kid. Blocks out 99% of all the pain and I know the opiates are why I'm more outgoing and laid back then I was as a kid. Wife says my laid-back attitude and being so talkative was part of what she finds attractive about me. If I ever had to go an extended time without my pain pills, I know I'd probably be a miserable ogre to be around between withdrawal and the sheer pain.
