In an humiliating turn of events, the once glorious nation of Nippon has crawled its way to the undisputed kings of Semiconductors, Korea. As it bows before the silicon throne, the lowly Jap begins begging for mercy as it panders for help in reviving its dying semiconductor industry.

Oh how times have changed.
>>
Embarrassing. Now it's their turn to get raped, economically.
>>
reports say millions may commit seppuku after this generational humiliation

>The reason why Japan is desperately trying to save its Semiconductor Industry:

Japan once was a leader in global semiconductors, exporting a lions share of finished semiconductors to companies the world over.

However, this market was all lost to the US, Chinese, Taiwanese, and especially the Koreans after Samsung and SK Hynix dominated the DRAM, HBM, and Flash markets.

This leaves Japan with companies that only provide parts and materials to semiconductor companies. This was fine way to make money but then COVID happened.

During the covid shutdown, the world woke up to a shortage of microprocessors as the highly globalized semiconductor industry came to a halt due to lack of parts and materials being available during the shutdown. This caused a systemic risk for many leading and advanced economies as so many goods and services rely on semiconductors. Everything from cars, appliances, life saving medical equipment, defense equipment, and services such as every website and online service you use today.

To address this concern, all of the major semiconductor producing countries started developing a fully domestic semiconductor manufacturing supply chain so that in the event of any future pandemic, war, or natural disaster, these countries could still continue manufacturing semiconductors.

As a result of this, every country market share of semiconductor materials and parts has consistently risen post covid - Except for Japan.

Japan is the only country to lose revenues each year as countries start building out their domestic supply chains in favor of Japanese materials. As such, this means that the hundreds of thousands of Japanese workers who make a good wage in the semi-materials industry are at risk of losing their jobs as the big players use their own home grown companies going forward.

Thus Japan is desperate for companies to setup semiconductor foundries in Japan so that the Japaneses materials, parts, and tools companies can stay afloat.

And in the event of an upcoming war, say with China over Taiwan, the Japanese will need to have the ability to produce domestic chips to feed into their military. Since the Japanese aren't able to produce leading edge semiconductors, they can't partake in the ever growing market for foundry services that companies like TSMC use to make billions every year. These are high paying jobs and a large income that Japan desperately needs in a time where they face a currency and debt crisis that has crippled their job markets.

The future is highly seeped in technology as AI and computing take over all aspects of our lives. China, Korea, the US and Taiwan are all poised to take advantage of this digital future but Japan is left behind.

Korea's tech champion, Samsung, is worth more than the top 100 Japanese tech companies combined! That goes to show just how far Japan has fallen compared to its neighbor.

Sucks to be Japan.

Seems Japan's goverment bait to build another Micron fab in Japan using a random gook firm as a stepping‐stone. These gooks will fall for it, now they fear losing the share to upcoming Chinese memory makers.

No, that makes zero sense as the Japanese government is paying the majority portion of the costs to build the fab, provide water and electricity lines to the facility and offers tax breaks to operate the fab.

Micron has already started building its new fab in Japan before this.

In fact, Micron has been the main memory maker in Japan but the Japanese are hoping for a leading fab from Samsung or SK Hynix to come to Japan as the Japanese are desperate to learn from the DRAM, Flash, and HBM leaders.

Samsung and SK Hynix own 70% of the DRAM and Flash market. They need a true high volume player to keep their dying materials companies alive.

Koreans are quick to add their own wishes to news reports, but to be precise, it wasn’t Japan that invited SK Hynix—it was SK Hynix that reached out to Japan.
That region is where Taiwan’s PSMC had scrapped its factory construction plans, so the area was already prepared to host a factory, and SK Hynix stands to gain more by incorporating Japanese materials and equipment.

ASML uses licensed patents from Japan and Korea for their machines. ASML is basically an integrator of parts and IP sourced globally to make their machines. Dutch can't do it alone. No country can as these machines are so complicated that it takes the world to come together to make it work.

japs are losing to Koreans at semiconductor materials. see >>541308818

Korea produces twice the revenue over Japan. The 2019 boycott fucked Japan over. Koreans now lead in tooling as well as they have a head start at building their own domestic supply chain. Sorry!

Good to know EUV materials (300mm silicon wafers, photoresists, photomask blanks, photomasks, helium gas) are all monopolized by Japanese firms.

Japanese high-purity chemicals are only possible because of chemical plant experiences over 50 years. Outside of Japan, their ecosystems are very weak, leading to unstable material supply. ASML's litho machines are just a big flash camera without Japanese materials.

If you think about it calmly, you’ll see, right?
It’s just that Taiwan’s original plan to build a factory happened to fall through this time—but for Japan, there are plenty of other partners besides South Korea.
No matter how many lies you tell, it’s clear that SK Hynix stands to gain much more.

Micron has a $100 billion megafab project planned for New York. China's CXMT is growing rapidly in conventional DRAM field (they binge-ordered DRAM etchers from Tokyo Electron. Half of TEL's revenue in 2024 came from China). This is putting pressure on gook firms. Japan needs to partner with Micron and ahead in advanced nodes, effectively choking gooks.

Lies? Sorry Sato-sama, but this is all documented in the press. Your nationalists propaganda to save face isn't going to work.

Japan needs Korea and this is why Japan bent its knee.

As the kids say, Cope and Seethe.

>>541313048
CXMT stole DDR tech from Samsung and the legal trails are just starting. China won't be able to sell it outside of their shithole.

Micron is so behind the Koreans they can't catch up. The most profitable memory is HBM and Korea owns the key patents and thus royalties goes to Korea regardless.

Its just Korea's world and Japan is just a desperate player begging for scraps from their Silicon Master, Korea.

For reference, HBM was created by Korean's.

AMD reached out to SK Hynix to have them help create a next gen memory. That pulled in Professor Joungho Kim who had been working on such a memory over a decade prior at KAIST (Korea's MIT). His research and patents is what allowed the creation of HBM.

These same patents are also being applied to the next gen of storage, HBF which Prof. Kim is also leading the development on.

Japan is a non-player.

It's a known fact that even HBM materials are dominated by Japanese firms. SK admitted that they rely on suppliers like Namics. Gooks don't have major material players like Shin-Etsu, exposing how weak their ecosystem is. SK approaching Japan is solely for material supply security, and Japan's government should absolutely boot them out for Micron, and for a kek.

And that market share is going to shrink as China comes online with its own domestic silicon wafer manufacturing. China is the largest customer for silicon wafers and that market will dry up as China seeks to have fully domestic supply by 2030. They are targeting 70% this year alone. Korea is focused on next gen silicon wafers for up coming High NA EUV use along with diamond and other materials for wafers. This is when you will see even less market share for Japan.

And this is the point you're missing. What Japan has today is drying up and the writing is clearly on the wall. Thus the need to keep foundries operating in Japan in order to ensure Japanese materials and parts supply companies have sample share to sell too. Now you know why you japs are so desperately need to have Korea open fabs in Japan as the Koreans are the largest memory producers on the planet by far.

The clock is ticking, japbro.

No Japanese men want to marry with Korean woman.
>>
Tasks such as facility start-ups, technical support, operational testing, process evaluation, and troubleshooting for companies like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix were carried out by employees from Japanese semiconductor-related firms traveling to South Korea. These Japanese employees earned 2 to 3 million yen a month and were treated to lavish hospitality while there. To put it briefly, your economy is merely an offshoot of Japan's. Furthermore, it is the United States that decides where those semiconductors are shipped. Don't get cocky just because Japan is staying quiet, Goldman.

>>541317894
No, they are Korean engineers who work on the process as its sensitive trade secrets. You'd know this if you knew how fabs work. Love the fanfic, Takashi. You should use that for your next loli or JAV script.
