It's almost the autumn planting season in the Northern hemisphere! How are your economic collapse survival gardens going, Anons?I'll be getting my first kiwiberry harvest this season and my grapes have been going absolutely NUTS this year. I'm half tempted to make some wine, but I'll probably go with a grape jelly (with the ones I don't eat out of hand).
Remember: Every person who plants fruit/nut trees is one fewer raider when things go to shit.
>>541328770>>541329643none of that shit will help you in a real emergency>muh fruityeah cool you can eat a handful of apples before you get overrun with niggers on quads armed with full auto firearms
I've been putting off gathering new seeds. I've got the first batch of bell peppers coming in, but I want more ideas. Any recommendations, anons?
>>541329729I recommend planting primarily perennials. It's far less work in the long run.In terms of annuals, sweet potatoes are pretty good. High caloric density, tasty basically any way you prepare them. Look up the "no till" method.
>>541329706I own enough guns to arm my entire family on my own and I'm not even the only gun owner in the family. I don't care if you wear level 4 plates, either, because I will shoot anyone who tries to take my shit in the dick.
>>541329706i live out innawoods and everyone is afraid of ticks so thats not my problem
>>541329826I've got sweet potatoes and idaho potatoes on the list of things to plant, I'm unfamiliar with perennials tho
>>541329951Look up the USDA hardiness zone you live in and try to select plants that will survive at least one zone higher and lower (to account for particularly cold winters/hot summers).I'm in zone 5-6, so I focus mainly on berries.
I got 300kg of honey this year, double the amount of last year, pretty insane.
>>541329706Having food stored outside the house is how you beat the raiders. Don't run the generator.
>>541330090BASED BEEKEEPER ANON.
>>541330031im in zone 3, so im mostly fucked.also live in a city so double fuckedi have tart cherries
>>541330090Fucking nice
>>541330031I'm sitting comfortably in 6, so get plants for 5-7?
>>541328770In America there are too many niggers and it will be dangerous to go outside. White people should be prepared to be under siege for at least two months until the military can pacify the niggers (by which I mean kill them). Brave boy who wants to go outside and do battle with the niggers every day will just end up dead.
>>541330153There are a bunch of rubus (raspberry family) varieties that'll survive there. You could also grow apples, pears, blueberries, currants/gooseberries, elderberries, strawberries, aronia, saskatoons, honeyberries, sea buckthorn, kiwiberries, butternut, black walnut, hazelnuts and buartnuts.
>>541330270Ideally. You can stretch it a bit more with a bit of investment in a greenhouse (A "lean-to" greenhouse will actually increase the efficiency of heating your home during winter).
>>541330409Big thanks, I'll look more into it.
>>541330344The great depression lasted a decade. Having food storage is a good thing, but you will not be able to store enough food to last a decade without resupply and you'll want to fucking kill yourself if you live on a diet of nothing but rice and beans for months.
>>541330270If you can grow potatoes, you should. Highest caloric density per acre/sqm. Other stuff is for variety and mental health, potatoes keep your weight up. A 10ft, by 10ft plot of potatoes will feed a man for a year.
>>541330521Not quite the highest, but definitely a good option.Tiger nuts (not actually nuts) provide more calories per square foot, for instance.
>>541330130>>541330255Ty anons, have some honey
I would also strongly recommend raising livestock if you can. Not only are chickens delicious and provide fresh eggs every day, they also eat ticks.
>>541330153>im in zone 3, so im mostly fucked.Alaska?
>>541330857Must be.On the bright side, they grow MASSIVE cabbages there.
>>541329893you won't do shit up in your frozen hellhole
>>541331676If I won't do shit, it's because nobody tries shit, which is exactly how I like it.Enjoy getting ventilated on your first raid, retard. Nothing of value will be lost.
>>541328770my most prolific plant this year is husk cherry (goldenberry). it fruits like a maniac. the maypop is coming in nicely, couple dozen fruit although they dont seem to have much inside them. may not be worth it for a collapse garden. also my ghost peppers are almost ready.where do you order seeds from? ive been liking experimental farm network seeds. need to find the right kiwiberry seeds to plant.
>>541333354I rarely grow from seed, to be honest. I have a really good plant nursery nearby.I've been considering some ground cherries for a spot under one of my grape vines. I hear some varieties taste like pineapple.
>>541333354>goldenberryThose taste like shit here, I eat them fresh in Peru and it's night and day.
>>541334144The ones I've had were pretty good. Like tiny tomatoes with a bit more sweetness. If the pineapple tasting ones do well here, that'd be awesome.
>>541328770was too depressed to plant this year, maybe i should make some rope from my cannabis plants, haha!
>>541328770Weird season.Herbs are doing great, metric fuckton of lemon balm, thyme, rosemary and basil. I had to give most of the basil away, couldn't even dehydrate it all in timeA lot of raspberries and blueberries this year first year I got an edible fig.Cucumbers and squashes aren't doing as well for me, and many of my tomatoes got rot on them unfortunately.Tree's seem to be a bit sad this year as well
>>541333354Maypops are wrinkled and yellow when ripe. It's still a little early for them if you're more northern
