America is throwing away billions of dollars (it will be trillions by the end) and losing it's legitimacy at record pace. Iran is going to be considerably worse off for the next decade and a half, but after which America will have lost it's hegemony due to being financially and morally bankrupt, and nobody believing it can keep it's word to police the world (which is the only reason anyone pays attention to America in the first place).

In the long run, even if it ruins their country and bankrupts public finances, Iran will be better off eventually. Why do you think Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey (plus soon to be Egypt, probably) have signed a close mutual defence pact? Because America can't do the job anymore and is on the way out.
