>>
>>541331650
That's what's funny about Musk's stance. He's right, but his reasoning is stupid.
There are a near infinite number of chess games that can be played. However, humans have optimized it over many years.
Which is just like real life.
War is very simple. It's also been optimized.
>>
>>541331684
I play chess, and you are correct.

I had a match against a jew, wherein I played an original game. My opponent was dumbfounded and tossed the board upside down accusing me of "cheating" it was very apparent that all he could do was reenact old historical games from rote memorization, he didn't even know the rules of the game.

They can't create, all they do is steal, copy, and cheat.

Doesn't that just prove there's still life in the game because you can take out an opponent who thinks he knows it all by being original?

It's like the other anon said about war, there's a lot of routes you won't take in any given situation because they're bad ones. If you have a street and the enemy are at the other end you won't order your men to stand in the open throwing pies at them even though it is an option you could theoretically choose.

Chess is interesting from a game design perspective, or at least the combinatorial space that can produce a complex game state from relatively simple rules. It's kind of solved at this point, but that doesn't make the design uninteresting to study. Go is probably the next natural thing to suggest for a game that can produce complexity from simplicity, but I'm the 21st century we probably need something like the be MtG sets with Spider-Man on them if we want anyone to play.

If you combine Fischer Randomized Chess (mirrored randomized starting positions) with Circular Chess (the board is a circle and wraps around so non-pawn pieces can even attack the rear of the enemy formation) you get a Chess that will probably never be able to be "solved" even with alien technology.

Being able to play ten moves ahead takes some processing power. Experts rarely calculate every branch that far. Instead, they use memory, intuition, and pattern recognition to narrow choices down to a few smart paths, and this is very lazy.

It's not just about chess. Thinking ten moves ahead is a way of life, master it, not the game.
There are few surprises in life, when you expect the unexpected in advance.

this, i have a copy of command and conquer i bought (one of the few games), solely because i wanted a challenge that trumped chess.

chess is too rigid, when real war (and interpersonal relationships) is more fluid and changes moment by moment.

in real life a pawn can be a hidden bishop that can move like a knight with the defense of a rook and liberty of a queen, while taking a shot at an enemies piece from a distance of 4-8 squares like a sniper.

chess can't train for that fluidity
for 2d minded golems its perfect, but only for their 2x2 board lives, once you step out into the real world, you need a game with more complex rules, pieces and outcomes. (Armored Brigade II, Command and Conquer, and other rts games)

As long as a game uses logic and reasoning in its mechanics then yes those will be useful in real life. Playing games where you have to make complex decisions based on objective information is the foundation of critical thinking, reason, and logic. Training yourself to treat life as a game with no emotional attachments to objectively rational decisions is a very useful skill that most people don't have.

He's right. Chess is a boring game.
I think of Dungeons & Dragons as the improved version of chess. Some queerfolk play D&D like a theater group of actors, but the original game was really rooted in classic military simulation. For a long time people would make tiny figurines of soldiers and play out wars, sort of how people play Warhammer 40k the physical game with the dice and mini's. But D&D is more like chess, you have your combat grid, and each piece has movement rules and combat rules to determine which piece drops. And since it's a narrative with constantly changing locations and enemies, it keeps the tactics fresh and interesting.
>>
>>541339510
I would agree to an extent, since D and D is really about a story that is pushed along by a Dungeon Master for pure entertainment. Dungeon Masters bend rules in order to keep things moving along, and that includes bending logic to fit their naratives.

In the real world all you have to be is at least a little priviliged and do what your told to do and you will be ok. Chess has more fluidity than you can even think of. You have no idea what you're talking about. If you were put on a battlefield you'll likely die like you lose in chess.

these are two distinct aspects. one is honorable duel/competition, the other one is real life battle with basically no rules.
people like to glamorize conflict, war has rules and shit, but it doesn't really. just look at how many are blown to pieces with drones when they walk with their hands up to surrender. if you don't follow any rules you have a higher chances of success.

In recorded history peanut butter was invented by edomites so you're close, Edom was Jacob Israel's brother Esau. Edomites (india) ate a bucket of curry peanuts and squirted it into a jar from their rear end. circa 800BC
Indian potato, the precursor to the modern peanut was so popular it became extinct in India.
Relatives of the potato were discovered in Bolivia centuries later, but nut butters originated in Asia.
Incas and Aztecs ground roasted peanuts into a thick paste over 3,000 years ago.
Ground nut and seed pastes have a long history outside of peanuts. Sesame paste (tahini) was created thousands of years ago. In medieval times, Mediterranean and Islamic cultures pounded almonds into rich pastes to thicken stews or make sweets like marzipan.

If jews claim that they invented peanut butter, they stole it from the Aztecs when they were colonizing south america.

A fair point but a majority of those potential games would also be 'silly'. Like random movements, not taking high value hung pieces, repeating moves that serve no purpose.

The number of possible games where both sides are actively trying to win is much smaller than the number of potential games.

Somewhat is. RTS teaches that war is mostly about resource management and calculated risks. It teaches you to think fast and make the correct moves for a win. Like maybe your opponent has better resource generation and will 100% grind you out but you have a better positioning and can strike him hard and fast before that is a problem. Something Hitler did with his blitzkrieg, eventually he got grinder out though unfortunately

Chess isn't exactly a battlefield simulation but we don't ignore classical literature because we live in modern times. Do we? I say we don't. There are formulas to win in a battlefield too. It doesn't mean you will always win.
>>
>>541343689
I'm not fighting his battle, I'm fighting against the emotional attachment that you all have for a game purely because "it's old and people told me I'm smart if I'm good at it," when the reality is that chess doesn't make you good at strategy only real life does. But to get a piece of it, playing an RTS is more likely to build a strategic mind. An the fact that all of you still have this emotional attachment to this means that it doesn't matter what logical points I make you will still think chess is somehow not basic and an RTS is not a better teacher of strategy when similar programs are used by modern military. As far as teaching strategy chess is inferior by many points.

in a truly realistic wargame you'd have a whole chain of command acting intelligently on your orders and communicating back and forth but that takes a lot of dedication from the participants and can only be done with live humans, in a turn based game you can simulate the level of decision making that happens inside larger command structures by just letting the players consider their options before committing into action

Chess had the mystique of being for really smart people in the Cold War. People hyped up chess players as having IQ of 180 or 200....etc.
But the reality is far different, very dumb people can be excellent at chess. Chess masters like Vishy Anand have an IQ in the 80's. Guys like Hikaru Nakamura and Magnus Carlsen have stripped away all the upper class respectability and turned it into a low class pugnacious game filled with drinking, drama, and "callouts" of other players....etc.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeKySxk0Ezk

The truth is, apes do spatial-recognition way better than humans. It's not a matter of intelligence, quite the reverse; humans have a bunch of extra processing layered on top which makes tasks like that more difficult. An ape can instantly count the number of cards dropped on the floor, or memorize long sequences, because they don't have extra processing confusing the matter. You yourself can gain that level of acuity by passing an electric current through your brain and shutting off a portion of it. Suddenly you can add up all the numbers on 100 dice dropped on the floor, instantly.
This is probably what happens in chess. These guys need a bit of ape-brain to see the patterns and all combinations in as brief a time as possible.

hence the restrictions.
but yeah I get it you want the freedom of finding something nobody did before and use that to your advantage. that's cute, but that's nerd low spine behavior. true alphas handicap themselves to make a point. which is what chess is, restricted game. less about getting lucky and more about pure strategy and using a limited set of moves spanned over a certain period to win the game. not about inventing drones and sitting safely in your bunker while blowing the opponent up. that's weak. it helps you win for sure, but is weak. strong characters do not settle for that, in a game. maybe in reality for survival and shit yeah.
again, all of this is self snitching

If I want to rob a bank, I will trust a chess grandmaster to make a plan over some random low elo peasant any day.
>>
>>541345320
Larry Lawton might suck at chess but he has actual robbery crew experience
>>
>>541330932
He’s 100% right.
>>541331242
You can only play it so many times before you have played all possible combinations of moves and scenarios. It’s an 8x8 grid, dude. 20-ish pieces. That’s great for the magic of the game, but not so great when you need something that gets harder as you get better and preferably continues challenging amd interesting you.

With chess, you can only sort of get that if you frequently switch to brand new opponents. It’s simply less. It’s a cold turkey samdwhich vs some spicy asian dish.

>>541330932
He's just too much of an epic gamer. I understand. You don't really appreciate chess unless you lived through the time before more engaging strategy games were developed. Also-

Risk > Chess
>>
>>541345298
oh logic fails miserably if you start with the wrong assumptions. many such cases. moreso, idiots have higher chances of winning when they start with the wrong assumptions, because they can mistakenly do the right moves. someone using logic with the wrong assumptions is almost guaranteed to fail

chess originated in India
why are there no jeets in this thread
>>
Elo separates the boys from the men. It's that simple. Like standard distribution.
>>
>>541345288
Well then you the only excuse for your inability to reason is yourself, can't put the blame on your love for an old game. That might be even worse.
>>
>>541331315
Games are junk by and large but something super complex like Yu-Gi-Oh is unironically good for you to play every morning.
>>
>>541345408
The crews don't make a plan. Those are just a pawn that only know how to follow order.
>>
>>541331085
Its pretty clear they dont. They literally rely on AI to plan wars now and no self respecting RTS player would ever stoop that low.

>>541331242
Cool so lets just practice the card game war. Its even simpler. Thus better.

>>541345272
>autistically memorized
Yeah this here is the fundamental problem with chess. Same reason why pro CS skills dont port to new levels or the real world.
>>
>>541345320
Yes because playing chess means you know how to rob a bank. You prove my point better than I could.

I can certainly rob your house if I feel like it.

Larry has talked a lot about considerations that go into robbery, he knows how to plan one

That's a lot of text for saying absolutely nothing.

Risk is a bit of a degenerate game, because your ability to win or lose depends entirely on your opponent granting you that luxury. A tilted or irrational opponent can throw your game. So a meta-game develops around how you treat other players, and you might not even play aggressively on them because you need them on your side in future matches.
There are some interesting strategies, but in general I don't think it's as good as something like Starcraft.

Just like actual war. Your ally may be an enemy, and your enemy may be an ally. You have to learn to navigate them as well as the armies themselves. Geopolitics 101, the game doesnt end at the board.

>>541345769
It's already end before the fight. Only an idiot fight the plan with no clear winning strategy.

>scamming and izzat farming is intelligent
It’s socially deleterious behavior which, when everybody engages in it, turns your society into India. This is why Indians are smug about making airline employees wheel them around in a wheelchair even though they’re perfectly capable of walking. To the Indian mind, this is a genius move and everyone else is simply dumb for not taking advantage of a high-trust system like you.

No wonder Elon wants to be surrounded by jeets.

There are virtually infinite unique positions in chess, all of that from an 8x8 board with 32 pieces. You don't need complexity to have depth.

>Compared to go, chess is booger eating easy
Not really. Go might have more overall possible moves, but each piece does exactly the same thing and is static. In one aspect, Go is definitely more complicated, but in another it's far simpler because the differing movement patterns of chess pieces and the emergent opportunities that arise out of them, as well as the asymmetric nature of the chess board itself relative to the Go board, I think makes chess a bit more impressive to master. I know Go's positioning of domains or whatever they're called, are fundamentally almost the relative equivalent of various chess pieces, but at the same time, I think Go ultimately boils down to more neatly comprehensible series of binary algorithms that are always in play no matter the stage of the game, vs chess's opening patterns which are basically gone once they're gone.
