A while ago I made a thread talking about how some YouTubers were saying something about some super secret US anti drone tech that could destroy swarms of drones. They said it was super secret and unrevealed, not even given to the Ukrainians yet. Now, one of those YouTubers posted a video saying like "here it is I told you guys". This is the device he posted. This seems to be some sort of laser weapon for burning drones. Would this tech be able to win the drone war?
>>
That doesn't sound very efficient seeing as drones can take cover behind trees etc, and laser don't have that long range, and not to mention how clumsy it is to carry around.
>>
>>541338056
no but its a starting point for automation
>>
>>541338182
its not but it will be if they continue
>>
>>541338056
It's a Russian system. It is limited to under 100m distance. It's not portable/mobile enough to defend against FPV drones. Currently (as evidenced by the still from the vid) is being tested as a de-mining tool, that can burn out explosives without explosion.
>>
>>541338182
That's kind of what I'm thinking. You can also only shoot one drone at a time.
>>
>>541338056
It's pretty easy to just jam drones. Weve been jamming radio frequencies in front line combat since the 90s. Doesn't work on the wired drones but if you know the basic frequency bands the drones use, it's simple to jam non wired ones.
>>
it's a cnc laser lmao
>>
>>541338056
From my shit understanding, the issue with lasers is battery tech. You can make an omega death laser and have it be the size of the death star. To make it portable enough to hit drones at a decent distance it'd have have a large ass battery.
>>
>>541338056
how is this going to stop a drone thats going 100km/h coming from above?
>>
>>541338345
most FPV drones in Ukraine now run on optic fiber, and can reach 20km strike distance. The long range strike drones use satellite guidance and machine vision (edge AI) targeting.
>>
>>541338563
steady hand and good luck comrade
>>
>>541338563
I'm have no idea. Even if you burn the drone, couldn't it still fall onto you and detonate? I will say, it looks like some Star Wars stuff, with the backpack and everything
>>
>>541338056
ineffective moneysink
discarded
>>
>>541338634
exactly, memeflag is a complete moron as usual. Also drones have anti-jamming packages, it's not "pretty easy"
>>

yeah the warhead would still explode near you and shrapnel towards you.

we should make a high speed drone that locks onto fiber optic drones and gets behind them with a spinning blade. Cuts the wire and the attack drone is toast. They don't even need to fully intercept, just find the wire

it wont
and if it did it wont stop a mortar round

>>541338056
There have been several.
Laser one, it is developed by UK and Israeli. Do not remember that USA version was mentioned. By the way, ziggas also field tested that tech. But they had relatively developed laser tech since soviet times.

Then there was microwave weapons. As much I remember, USA was dominating in that. There was also anti-civilian application, that protester crowds could be dispersed, if that "heat ray" gets targeted over protesters. Same tech can be used against drones, to fry their electronics.

This but turned up to robot.
>>
>>541338056
Cool theory, if there is tech that could stop drones easily we’re back to tanks and f16s again.

What if secretly they are making tanks again
>>
I'd trust a deployable AI turret with the laser on a gimbal over a human operator. Why don't they do that? Hitting these quad drones for a regular soldier is like asking a marksman to shoot a fly
>>
>>541338056
>US anti drone tech that could destroy swarms of drones.
you mean EMP ?
>>
>>541339075
I've seen things like that. But they bring up the same question: what if you just fly a bunch of drones at it at once?
>>
>>541339290
to do that we have to use a nuke, and it would also fuck up all our shit too

>Why don't they do that? Hitting these quad drones for a regular soldier is like asking a marksman to shoot a fly
Israel have that tech. But lasers have range for like 4km. May be double, in perfect conditions. Need a lot of power. Cost quite a lot.

That tech been developed and might be later used as part of defense network in high priority areas. May be some ships, and airfields.
>>
>>541338923
>that protester crowds could be dispersed, if that "heat ray" gets targeted over protesters
which got scrapped because it requires bueno weather contitions, line of sight and other inconvenient shit like people wearing thick clothes
> Same tech can be used against drones
and will not work because of the same things

laser is equally limited (EXCEPT for specific things like protecting areas from a range of things flying 'towards' it) but is generally unflexible no matter what
>>541338634
>machine vision
is good, very good even, but even this is not perfect, because reality is not limited like a video game, it often needs additional info gathered from sattelite imaging or similar so its not a one size fits all thing

Just cut the line with a pair of scissors
>>
>>541339394
I guess both have their pros and cons. You would need at least the same number or more counter drones to defend against a swarm attack. The laser turret meanwhile only needs to be hooked up to a source of power, but is a more concentrated point of failure.
>>
>>541338056
Is it low altitude flak? please tell me it's low altitude flak
>>
>>541338056
The problem with drones is they are fast as fuck and tiny so it's hard to hit them before they fly into you and blow up. You can give your soldiers laser rifles or whatever but the real issue is you hear it coming and then five seconds later half your squad is dead.
>>
>>541339575
It was not scrapped.
Anti drone version is still in development, and first batches got delivered in like last year.

But it is USA thing, and probably not yet deployed on bases in Middle East.
Microwave anti drone tech is still one of directions in which USA are developing. Still, limited range (direct line of sight) and being very, very expensive.
>>
>>541339826
that's why you shoot a LOT of flak
>fuck whatever is over there
vgh
>>
>>541339573
laser mirrors are a thing you know, playing a game between china and the usa, china would develop a counter that would simply deflect the laser beams
fly close to ground, with a swarm maybe, and the laser gimmick is equally as fucked, simply because they cant detect the incoming objects, pair the too gclose to the ground gap in "radar" detection with machine vision and even then they can just use topography or objects as cover
so what do ?
have entire corridors of miles of flat no mans land with no cover
then you just have to defend against rods from god, artificial asteroids, and of course tunneling
xD
point is there will always be a way
dont make war
war sucks
>>
>>541338056
when do we get drone warfare movies
>>
>>541339948
Point was, that laser turrets exists. And those even got field tested, when Iran sent missiles to Israel. How effective were those? Only israeli will know that answer.
>>
>>541338923
The microwave one is more interesting. But again, batteries/expense/portability. Kinetic flack rounds might win the day when combined with visual AI and absurd aiming algorithms. That's where infantry is starting to push to as well, although that's a long way away. It's much easier to say 'stay here, look at the sky, and shoot anything that looks like a bird' vs 'drive here, find targets, and eliminate them'

Either way, it's a TERRIBLE time to start a ground war, or any war. I don't expect that to change for 20+ years until some major advancements in anti drone capabilities. a $200 drum of fiber fucks over electronic warfare as well. Those drums are getting more expensive too.
>>
>>541340185
Our country went in direction of intercepter drones.
Still, there needs to be network of detection systems (acoustic, radar). Which is not easy. Interceptor drone range is limited, so there also need to be network of interceptor drone depots, from which those could be launched. Those drone depots will be vulnerable to rocket attack, as drones are way slower than drones. As upside, those require comparably low tech things to manufacture, and countries with even low military budget can do something in that direction.
>>
>>541339865

you talked about ads medusa aka heat ray

>>
>>541340164
oh yes from what leaked they seem to be very effective, thats why i said against a range of things, this system against what iran put on display was basically clay pidgeon shooting.
you should be aware of the issue that the us have for fighting underpowered adversaries with overpowered weapons for the last decades
you could see what happens if they confront a adversary that has at least some resemblance of a industrial base, which is why russia has still not collapsed yet contrary to all the differentiating messages that can be heard on the hallway radio
>>
>>541338056
Not really super secret if jewtubers know about it
>>
>>541340398
It might be scrapped by Germans, for whatever reasons. Similarly as German government decided to close last operating nuclear powerplants, knowing that there will be energy deficit.
Still, in some other countries, which are not Germany, research and development in that direction still happens. And USA got as far that they started to deliver first special anti-drone versions to their military.
Would not be surprised that China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan also works in similar direction (they all have quite advanced electronics industry, thus large enough talent pool to get engineers which could be capable to pull something like that).
>>
>>541340597
There simply are no data on how jewish lasers performed. May be they managed to hit one rocket. May be 3. May be none.

Inverse square law of distance requires you to point this 0.005mm point of light on a small object that zips around like it has bumbellbees up its arse, from 50m away for at least 10 seconds.
Also, lunge around several massive powerbanks with you, there are no powerlines in trenches.
>>
>>541341465
>no you specifically described the "heat ray" system which was medusa, and which was mothballed,
That is same tech.
That personel-dispersion version even was deployed in Afghanistan. Not sure, was they used against someone, or not.
Pretty sure, some of anti-personal variations are still in USA army inventory somewhere. As they work on different frequencies than anti-drone versions.

Crossbow was gay yeah, probably the first ever gay weapon. Crossbowmen were looked down upon.

Normal bows, especially longbows required strength and skill. And their effect on the battlefield was minimal. Not gay.

As for gunpowder, they didn't really change how warfare was conducted for centuries because guns were still inaccurate as fuck.

Maxim machinegun and heavy artillery from long distances ruined warfare. WW1 was the worst period to be a soldier.
Tanks killed trench warfare until drones forced us into trenches again.

>>541338182
>and laser don't have that long range
to fry an optic sensor? several kilometers
>>
>>541344327
The energy that has to be delivered the further away it is needs to be exponentialy higher and the duration for a laser to"fry" an fpv cmos sensor also needs to be longer with distance. Otherwise youre just giving zhe drone operator a shining light that he can target
>>
>>541341644
>Inverse square law of distance
Not within Rayleigh range, which according to my research is of course in the km range for military lasers, now that might not apply to OP's.

>>
>>541341188

>>
>>541344578
You can fry a camera with a cheap green laser from a mile away. I'm guessing the extra energy is to melt the drone and detonate the warhead or at least stop it from flying at you.
>>
>>541345020
Of course the effective range depends on the power source and idk how good that backpack battery is. This would be good tech on a battleship not on an infantryman
>>
>>541345168
Atmosphere is not as clean and homogenous. With increased range, some of that laser energy gets absorbed by atmo things. Like dust and moisture. Also there are atmospheric fluctuations, which become more as issue with greater range. Partially it can be mitigated by increased beam diameter, but that also requires way more energy and more complicated cooling system.
>>
No you are all right, all you need is a bunch of those illegal 5mw green or blue laserpointers to take all of iran and ukraine. Go for it. Please
>>
>>541338056
Ah the classic "America is 50 years ahead trust me bro"
If there was such a thing and it was even remotely viable to use in war, it would be used in Ukraine right now. Of course it could've just been invented a week ago and that's why it's nowhere to be seen yet, but I doubt that's the case.
>>
>>541339290
>you mean EMP ?
Muh EMPs aren't anywhere near as effective or devastating as people think. It won't just completely fry every electronic device. Most electronic stuff like drones would be totally fine.
The only thing that you really would need to worry about is the electrical grid with a very large EMP. The long power lines would act like antennas to absorb a lot of the energy from the pulse which would then destroy a lot of the transformers connected to the lines.
>>
>>541338056
don't know why it's so hard to not just have your own anti-drone drone to deploy, it just needs to essentially crash into the opposing drone.
>>
>>541338706
Cut him some slack. It was pretty easy until around 2025, and drone warfare essentially ceased fore a month or two in Ukraine. Than they started using optical fiber and AI and now it's back

how many minutes until someone shops in Saddam?
>>
>>541346485
Because it's hard to intercept and if it misses you're fucked. by the time you hear the incoming drone, pull the counter-drone from your backpack, prime it, deploy it, that could take 3 seconds but by then it's already on top of you and you're dead. Or, your drone misses, and you're dead. We would need a detection grid, and the detectors and counter-drone silos would become targets as another anon mentioned
>>
>>541346524
Drones are light so not enough mass behind it to cut deep, it would have to slice an artery in the neck or leg to really hurt someone that's wearing body armor. Maybe those huge agriculture drones with buzzsaws on them, but those would be huge targets and just cartoonishly silly. That's why I think I think the buzzer cutters would be better as pure counter-drones that, at least if they miss, can try to cut the fiber optic line. Might be too situational and impractical to work reliably desu.
>>
>>541346688
no reason the anti-drone drones can't be deployed beforehand, could act as advanced scouts and perimeter guard.

and it becomes a game of cat and mouse as AI targeting meets AI evasion.

>anti-drone drones can't be deployed beforehand
Battery capacity, with the best batteries we have today they can hover for around an hour but for that final push to intercept and defent it uses a lot of power fast so they need a reserve. We could add more batteries and make a heavier drone but that could impact its ability to intercept
>>
>>541347815
When we get laser array defense turret and counter drone 3D grids that will be kino. The fly zapper.
>>
>>541349325
anti-drone drones are just drones fit for purpose, they'll have the same effective battery life of attack drones, possibly even more if they are mostly hovering or moving slowly, and they don't even need to carry an explosive warhead, instead they could use extra weight for better sensors or for burst speed. They may not even need to fly until engaged, could just be on standby attached a rack with additional batteries.

DARPA has developed a weapons system but it is nothing like this. It is a swarm of very small, fast, and highly maneuverable drones which passively (optionally actively) hunt incoming enemy drone signatures and emit small-radius, relatively weak EMPs to disable them. They are deployable via a dedicated "hive" (master console for en-masse deployment and dispersion control) or a small field pack, and their ability to rapidly deploy across long distances via 30- and 40mm canisters (intended for the M320, Mk19, M32A1, PGS etc) is currently functional and in the final stages of QA testing. I am not suicidal.
